On the morning of October 1, in Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Luong Quoc Doan and Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien co-chaired a forum to listen to farmers speak.

Sending a letter to promote the signing of a protocol on grapefruit export this year

At the forum, Mr. Vo Quang Huy, Director of Huy Long An Company Limited, asked the Minister of Industry and Trade to inform about the roadmap and time when grapefruit will be officially exported to the Chinese market. This is a fruit grown on a large area in our country. If grapefruit can be brought to the Chinese market, the value brought back can reach billions of USD within 1-2 years.

Mr. Huy also recommended that the Ministry of Industry and Trade develop a capital policy for renewable energy conversion. For example, the cost of solar power has gradually decreased, but switching from one technology to another requires capital, making it very difficult for businesses and farmers.

Regarding the opening of grapefruit, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said that during a working trip with Minister Nguyen Hong Dien to China last year, the ministry raised the issue with the Chinese side to open the market and sign an official export protocol for grapefruit and avocado, and the two sides agreed to prioritize early resolution.

"Up to this point, the inspection team of the General Administration of Customs of China has come to work and currently the Chinese side is drafting a protocol to officially sign with us. Hopefully, early next year, grapefruit will be able to enter the Chinese market" - Mr. Nam said and informed that after opening the grapefruit market, the ministry will prioritize negotiations to open the avocado market.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that negotiations to open the door for Vietnamese fruit exports to the Chinese market "seems easy but is not easy".

Mr. Dien requested that this afternoon, the Foreign Market Department immediately issue a letter from the Minister of Industry and Trade to send to the Chinese Minister of Commerce to promote the signing of the protocol this year.

Proposal to support the cost of installing self-produced and self-consumed solar power

Regarding capital for renewable energy, Director of the Electricity Department Pham Nguyen Hung said that the Party is very interested and has two Resolutions 55-2020 and most recently Resolution 78, which includes promoting the development of renewable energy, including wind power, solar power, waste-to-energy, biomass power and especially encouraging farmers, households and small and medium-sized enterprises in localities to install rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption.

The Government has issued Decree 135 and Decree 58, and currently the Ministry of Industry and Trade is drafting a Prime Minister's decision on technical and financial support for the installation of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power combined with the installation of storage batteries.

In this draft, the ministry proposes to support policy bank loans for 3 years with preferential interest rates. In addition, it also supports installation costs. In case of installing storage batteries, it will support 2-3 million VND for installation costs.

"We farmers have been exemplary in production, so we also need to continue to be exemplary in applying science and technology, taking advantage of this unlimited energy to reduce costs, save money, so that our agricultural products are truly green" - Mr. Hung added.
