On the afternoon of September 24, An Giang coordinated with relevant units to organize a workshop on Halal standards - Muslim-friendly services.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Acting Chairman of the An Giang Province Tourism Association - said that Phu Quoc has many potentials and advantages in welcoming Muslims. This international tourist market has great potential for Phu Quoc island tourism industry.
"We hope that through today's workshop, tourism businesses in Phu Quoc will better understand Halal culture and standards through cuisine and friendly communication to serve Muslims from India, Malaysia, Indonesia... and the Middle Eastern market," said Mr. Huy.

An Giang Department of Tourism said that in the first 9 months of 2025, An Giang welcomed nearly 20 million visitors. Of which, Phu Quoc special zone welcomed more than 6.5 million visitors, international visitors more than 1.2 million, total tourism revenue is estimated at more than 51,000 billion VND.
From early 2025 until now, this beautiful island has welcomed about 96,000 Indian visitors and 36,000 Malaysian visitors.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Deputy Director of An Giang Department of Tourism - acknowledged that the international tourist market is Muslim, which is coming to Phu Quoc in large numbers. This tourist market is very new to An Giang tourism industry, and is expected to increase sharply this year.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has recently developed and announced national standards for Muslim-friendly tourism services. This is a favorable condition for An Giang to welcome this type of tourist.
"We recommend that the An Giang Tourism Association and suppliers step up propaganda and actively learn and approach regulations on Halal certification to serve Muslims," Mr. Thanh emphasized.
How does Halal standard serve Muslim customers?
Mr. Tran Van Tan Cuong - Director of Vietnam National Halal Company Limited - informed that the Muslim population in the world is increasing at an average rate of 1.5%.
By 2050, the world's Muslim population will reach about 2.8 billion people, with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh having large Muslim populations.
"Muslim standards are quite specific, such as food and drink that does not contain prohibited substances; Halal hotel rooms comply with Islamic law, do not serve alcohol, and have separate areas for men and women.
Through the above standards, businesses in Phu Quoc welcoming this tourist market need to connect with each other to ensure Halal criteria to better serve customers," Mr. Cuong suggested.
