(Fatherland) - On the morning of November 7, in Hanoi , before the opening of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VII), the opening ceremony of the Film Festival Project Market took place.


Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, Head of the Steering Committee of HANIFF VII; Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Cinema Department, Head of the Organizing Committee of HANIFF VII; Mr. Olivier Brochet, Ambassador of the French Republic to Vietnam.

Opening of HANIFF VII Project Market

Following the success of the 4th Project Market within the framework of the 2022 Hanoi International Film Festival, this year, the Department of Cinema continues to coordinate with BHD Company & Vietnam Media Corp to organize the Project Market within the framework of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival.

Project Market is a meeting and experience place for producers, directors and screenwriters who wish to introduce their film projects to investors and leading experts in the world's film industry through seminars and meetings taking place from November 7-10.

Producers, directors and screenwriters who wish to present their film projects will have the opportunity to: Develop their film projects and improve their professional qualifications; Network and establish long-term cooperative relationships with potential partners; Approach producers, distributors, film festivals and investors; Participate in meetings, meet and work with producers representing international film festivals, project markets or major film organizations in the region.

Speaking at the opening of the Project Market, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh said: The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival is chaired by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hanoi People's Committee, the Department of Cinema in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports and relevant agencies to organize from November 7-11, 2024 in Hanoi, with the aim of honoring outstanding international and Vietnamese cinematographic works with high artistic value, rich in humanity and creativity in cinematographic language; encouraging new talents of international and Vietnamese cinema.

As one of the important professional activities that attracts a lot of attention from professionals, opening the series of activities of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival, the 5th Film Project Market will be a meeting place and experience for producers, directors and screenwriters who wish to introduce their film projects to investors and experts in the film industry in Vietnam and around the world through seminars, meetings and presentations taking place during the Project Market. This year, we would also like to thank the cooperation of the French Embassy, ​​the French Institute in Vietnam, the European Union Delegation, especially the coordinating unit BHD Vietnam Co., Ltd. for supporting us in this activity.

The Project Market activity demonstrates the Organizing Committee's interest in creating sources of projects and scripts, encouraging young Vietnamese filmmakers to access new creative trends, while also exchanging with international colleagues, approaching potential investors, and having the opportunity to participate in major International Film Festivals in the region.

Mr. Vi Kien Thanh expressed: "I believe that with the impartiality of the Jury, with the efforts of the representatives of the Projects participating in the Project Market this year, there will be more new films produced and released at the International Film Festivals next year."

This year, the project market received a record number of projects registered, nearly 70 projects from more than 20 countries and territories around the world. The quality of the projects this year is also very high and diverse. The Organizing Committee has invested a lot of time and had quite a lot of difficulty in selecting projects to participate in the Project Market of the Hanoi International Film Festival this year. Finally, the Organizing Committee decided to select 08 outstanding projects from six countries and territories around the world for the Presentation Round, including: I want to rent Hoai mai mai / Love Encoded by Director Nguyen Hoang Khoi Nguyen; Nguoi khoc nhi / Tears for Hire by Director Do Ha; Memento Mori: Nước / Memento Mori: Water by Director Marcus Manh Cuong Vu; The Hidden Legacy Blood Enigma - a cooperation project between Vietnam and Argentina by Director Nestor Sanchez Sotelo; Red Lights Blue Angels by Director Afsana Mimi (Bangladesh); Rahma by Director Faysal Soysal (Türkiye); Days of Monsoon by Director Honey Ahmad (Malaysia); Elephant of The Blinds by Director Ashish Madurwar (India).

The Organizing Committee has invited leading experts to join the Jury of the Project Market including: Mr. Thibaut Bracq (France) - Film Curator, Consultant; Ms. Jodi Hildebrand (USA) - Producer; Mr. Lee Jin Sung (Korea) - Director of Runup Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Phan Quang Binh (Vietnam) - Director, Producer, Director of Viet Film Studio, Chairman of BHD Company.

The Project Market will close at 2 p.m. on November 10. The awards will be announced at the Closing Ceremony of HANIFF VIII. The best project will receive a cash prize worth 135 million VND (equivalent to 5,000 Euros) sponsored by the French Embassy. The second best project will receive the Jury Award. The honorary award aims to encourage and support young, promising Directors./.
