Opening of the German Festival 2025 to celebrate 50 years of Vietnam-Germany friendship

Taking place over 3 days from October 17-19 at the Hoan Kiem Lake Walking Street (Hanoi), the German Festival - Deutschlandfest 2025 with the theme "Celebrating joint development cooperation" is one of the highlight events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations (1975-2025).

On the evening of October 17, at the Hoan Kiem Lake Walking Street area, Hanoi, the German Festival 2025 officially opened with the participation of Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam Helga Margarete Barth, representatives of Vietnamese ministries and branches, along with German organizations, businesses and development cooperation agencies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her appreciation for Germany's valuable support for Vietnam over the past 50 years.

The Deputy Minister pointed out that Germany is one of the first Western countries to accompany Vietnam during the difficult period after national reunification, as well as in the current process of Renovation and socio-economic development.

Germany's aid to Vietnam has so far reached more than 3 billion euros, spread across many areas of social life, contributing to helping Vietnam eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, train human resources and move towards sustainable development.

Expressing that Vietnam will always remember and appreciate the noble gestures from Germany, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang also affirmed her commitment to working with Germany to promote multifaceted cooperation more effectively and substantially.

The Deputy Minister emphasized his hope that the two countries will continue to coordinate to promote international cooperation for peace , stability, security and sustainable development in each region and in the world, and together effectively respond to global challenges such as climate change, food security, energy security, epidemics... in the current world context.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her belief that with the spirit of solidarity and joint efforts of the Governments, businesses and people of the two countries, the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership will continue to develop to new heights, becoming increasingly diverse and effective.

For her part, German Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth affirmed that over the past five decades, the relationship between Vietnam and Germany has grown increasingly deep and wide in many fields, from politics, economics, culture, science to education and vocational training. She said that there are currently more than 200,000 people of Vietnamese origin living in Germany, actively contributing to the diversity and development of German society.

Emphasizing that development cooperation is an important pillar in bilateral relations, Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth said that since 1991, Germany has supported more than 3 billion euros for development cooperation programs with Vietnam, focusing on areas such as poverty reduction, infrastructure development, energy transition, climate change response and sustainable growth.

Assessing Vietnam as a dynamic and potential developing country, the Ambassador also affirmed that Germany will continue to cooperate with Vietnam to address global challenges to harmonize economic growth, social equity and protection of natural resources for present and future generations.

Within the framework of the festival, about 40 German organizations and businesses, along with representatives from the three states of Bremen, Hessen and Thuringia, will introduce cooperation activities in the fields of development, economy, science, culture and sports.

Experiential spaces such as the “Magic Cube” - where visitors interact with sustainable development models, “Career Orientation Bus” introducing study and work opportunities in Germany, along with sports exchange programs with the women's football team of Werder Bremen club, music, cuisine... promise to bring a vibrant, friendly atmosphere right in the heart of the capital.

The Deutschland Festival 2025 is open to the public from October 17 to 19 on Dinh Tien Hoang pedestrian street, Hoan Kiem Lake, with many unique cultural, musical, sports and culinary exchange activities. The event is a vivid testament to half a century of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Germany, and opens up new prospects for cooperation in the next stage for a sustainable, prosperous and connected future.
