
According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province, as of October 14, 2025, the circulation of storm No. 11 caused heavy rain and floods, causing many areas in the province to be deeply inundated, landslides, and property of educational institutions to be swept away. The whole province has 180 educational institutions affected, of which 167 are under commune management and 13 units are under the management of the Department. The total damage to facilities is estimated at more than 181 billion VND, of which many schools had damaged classrooms, electrical equipment, fences, libraries, playgrounds, and clean water systems.
In addition, the Thai Nguyen education sector also counted 11,658 sets of textbooks, 55,476 notebooks and 5,185 sets of student learning materials that were damaged or lost and needed support.
According to statistics from Thai Nguyen University, the total estimated damage to facilities is about 137 billion VND, of which the University of Education and the University of Agriculture and Forestry are the two units that suffered the most damage.
Immediately after the flood receded, schools in the area organized cleaning work and mobilized forces to participate in restoring the learning environment. Thai Nguyen University and its units also promptly and proactively implemented measures to overcome the consequences, focusing on stabilizing the lives of officials, civil servants and workers, and preparing classrooms for students to return to school. As of October 16, all educational institutions in the province had allowed students to return to school.

Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Education and Training sent his condolences and encouragement to the Party Committee, government, education sector and people of Thai Nguyen province in the face of the heavy damage caused by storm No. 11.
The Minister assessed that the damage this time was very large, seriously affecting life, production and teaching activities in the area.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged the timely and drastic participation of Thai Nguyen province in directing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, with special attention paid to the education and training sector. The provincial education sector has also made great efforts to quickly stabilize teaching activities, minimizing damage to teachers and students.
Regarding the shortage of textbooks after the storm, the Minister requested the provincial Department of Education to coordinate with relevant units to urgently supplement and ensure that there are enough books for students by early next week. Along with that, it is necessary to quickly count the number of missing notebooks and school supplies to have timely support.
Regarding school facilities, the Minister pointed out that nearly 12% of schools in the province have not been solidified. The Ministry suggested that the province review, develop a roadmap, divide into phases and propose appropriate investment resources to speed up the solidification of schools and classrooms, ensuring safety and long-term stability for students and teachers.
The Minister also suggested a number of comprehensive solutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the coming time. In particular, the Minister suggested that Thai Nguyen University continue to promote its role as a major training center in the region, supporting human resources and expertise for general education institutions in the area, especially after the administrative boundary merger.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the education sector needs to pay attention to solving two key issues: facilities and human resources, considering this as the foundation for sustainable education development, meeting the requirements of innovation in the new period.
Previously, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son and his delegation visited Huong Thuong Kindergarten, Thai Nguyen Specialized Secondary School and Thai Nguyen University of Education to encourage teachers and students to quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize teaching and learning.

At the destinations, the delegation presented 350 million VND in support and some teaching equipment to three schools. In addition, the delegation also supported the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province with 350 million VND. This activity demonstrates the care and responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Training for educational institutions affected by natural disasters, while contributing to motivating teachers and students to overcome difficulties and maintain stable teaching and learning quality.
