Launching TBM robot to drill the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station Metro tunnel

On the morning of July 30, at the S9-Kim Ma underground station, the giant 850-ton TBM robot started drilling the first meters of tunnel for the Nhon- Hanoi Railway Station Metro project.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB), the launch of the TBM robot at the bottom floor of the S9-Kim Ma station is an important milestone for the underground section of the project, demonstrating the determination and efforts of the relevant parties in creating the capital's public transport system. MRB Hanoi Management Board and representatives of sponsors, consultants and contractors attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the S9 underground station project.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Son informed: TBM No. 1 named "Than Toc" will drill from station S9-Kim Ma about 200m, TBM No. 2 - "Tao Bold" will continue to drill the tunnel.

The tunnel boring machines will drill about 10 m/day.

The total time from the start of drilling the first TBM until the completion of TBM No. 2 was 16 months.

After drilling is completed, the TBMs will be dismantled at station S12.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Bao, Deputy General Director of FECON Joint Stock Company, shared that TBM technology at Metro Line 3 Hanoi is the world's leading advanced technology, suitable for mixed soil geology in Hanoi.

The tunnel drilling process is closely monitored by international experts.

As the tunnel lining panels are drilled, the TBM will immediately assemble them.

The underground section is expected to be completed in 2027.
