How to "age backwards"?

Skin care is not just about using cosmetics but has become part of a healthy lifestyle. This is also a "wellness" skin care trend that combines skin care and improving overall health. In particular, a scientific diet, enough sleep, stress reduction and exercise are all considered important factors for naturally beautiful skin.

“Reverse aging” thanks to non-invasive beauty methods

Since turning 30, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha Thanh (residing in Tan Trieu ward, Dong Nai province) has started to pay more attention to beauty and skin care to "retain youth". According to Ms. Thanh's concept, beauty is a process that requires comprehensive care both inside and out, both mental health, physical health and appearance. Therefore, she researched non-invasive skin care and internal beauty methods to possess beautiful skin in the most natural way.

Every day, in addition to maintaining proper skin care steps, Ms. Thanh also balances her diet scientifically , ensuring nutrition, limiting sweets. She also maintains regular gym sessions 3-4 times/week. In particular, she always maintains an optimistic spirit, has few negative emotions, and is not irritable.

Through the process of examining, treating and intervening for many patients, Dr. Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh, Department of Aesthetics, Dong Nai Dermatology Hospital, has noticed many changes in the beauty trends of women. Accordingly, customers want sustainable beauty, both radiant on the outside and healthy on the inside. Therefore, customers often choose safe, minimally invasive beauty methods, while also focusing on their mental life, diet and exercise.

Specialist Doctor I Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh said: It is not only age that causes skin aging. Modern lifestyle with many invisible pressures is an important cause that makes the skin and body "age" faster than normal. Prolonged stress, lack of sleep, environmental pollution, sunlight, fast food, alcohol, cigarettes... all cause the body to produce many free radicals - these are the "enemies" of healthy skin. Free radicals attack cells, break down the structure of collagen and elastin, leading to sagging skin, dryness, and early wrinkles. Therefore, if you want your skin not to "age" too soon, start by changing your lifestyle and keeping your spirit comfortable every day.

Regarding skin beautification methods, the development of aesthetic medicine offers many advanced solutions to help regenerate and restore the skin from within: technologies such as: PRP (platelet-rich plasma therapy) using the body's own cells to stimulate collagen production; modern lasers help resurface and improve pigmentation; HIFU and RF non-invasive lifting technology helps firm and rejuvenate the skin; stem cell and biological therapy helps regenerate damaged skin tissue, restoring natural elasticity. These methods, if applied correctly and combined with a healthy lifestyle, will help significantly slow down the aging process.

“Moisturizers or serums only affect the outer epidermis, moisturizing and protecting the skin, but are not capable of intervening in the root cause of the aging process - the degeneration of cells and connective tissue. Therefore, “reverse aging” requires a comprehensive combination of safe, proven-effective medical technology, along with a reasonable diet, sleep, exercise and mental care,” shared Dr. Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh.

The role of nutrition

According to Nguyen Thi Huong, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Hoan My Dong Nai Hospital, nutrition plays a fundamental role in slowing down the decline of cell function and supporting tissue regeneration. A balanced diet, with enough energy, rich in vitamins and minerals, will help the body reduce stress and oxidation - factors that promote premature aging.

True beauty is only sustainable when it comes from a healthy body and a well-nourished spirit - true to the “wellness” philosophy in modern skin care.

According to the "Guidelines for Proper Nutrition for Adults and the Elderly" issued by the Ministry of Health in 2023, the diet of adults should ensure a balance between the 3 groups of energy-producing substances (protein, lipid, glucid) in a ratio of about 15-20%: 25-30%: 50-60%, while maintaining a protein intake of 1-1.2g/kg body weight/day. High-quality protein sources such as fish, eggs, milk, soybeans... help maintain muscle mass and support collagen synthesis.

In addition, special attention should be paid to the group of antioxidant micronutrients such as: vitamins A, C, E, D; zinc, copper and selenium. These micronutrients have the role of neutralizing free radicals, protecting cell membranes, supporting the immune system and promoting DNA repair.

Regarding the principles of eating to help maintain youthfulness "from the inside out", according to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, adults should: eat a varied and balanced diet, prioritize fresh foods, limit processed foods; increase the intake of green vegetables and dark fruits, because these are natural sources of vitamins and antioxidants; supplement enough protein at each meal to maintain the structure of the skin, muscles and connective tissue; drink enough water, combined with filtered water, green tea or low-sugar juice; reduce sugar, alcohol, tobacco and fried foods, because they promote glycation reactions, reducing skin elasticity.

“In rejuvenating nutrition, we can consider the “golden trio” of collagen - antioxidants - unsaturated fatty acids as three important factors that help the body maintain youthfulness,” said Ms. Huong.

Ms. Huong analyzed: Collagen and collagen synthesis precursors (vitamin C, lysine, proline, copper) help increase collagen and elastin fibers, improve skin elasticity and firmness. This group of substances can be supplemented from food sources such as: salmon, eggs, soybeans, oranges, kiwi, red bell peppers, cashews...

Antioxidants (vitamins A, C, E; polyphenols, carotenoids, flavonoids, selenium) help neutralize free radicals, protect DNA, fight inflammation and slow down the aging process. This group of substances can be supplemented from food sources such as: green tea, cocoa, turmeric, berries, tomatoes, dark green vegetables, walnuts...

Omega-3, 6, and 9 unsaturated fatty acids help reduce inflammation, support cell membranes, and increase skin elasticity. You can supplement this group of substances from foods such as fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), olive oil, flaxseeds, chia seeds, and avocados.

The harmonious combination of these 3 groups of nutrients not only helps maintain healthy, smooth skin but also improves cell function, enhances resistance and protects cardiovascular health.
