After a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth in the early morning of October 23, Coventry extended their unbeaten streak to 11 matches, with 7 wins and 4 draws, earning 25 points and taking sole possession of the top spot in the Championship, 4 points ahead of second-placed Middlesbrough.
Statistically, this is the first time in Coventry City's history that they have gone undefeated in their opening 11 league games. The run began with a draw with Hull City in the opening round, before the team exploded with big wins over Derby County and QPR, scoring a total of 12 goals in just two games.
Since the end of September, Lampard's team has maintained a stable form with 5 consecutive wins, in which Brandon Thomas-Asante stood out with a double against Portsmouth.
Last season, Lampard guided Coventry to a fifth-place finish but failed to qualify for the promotion play-offs. The 47-year-old is targeting direct promotion to the Premier League in 2025/26. Coventry will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when they face Watford this weekend.
Lampard’s success has largely come from getting the most out of his existing players. With explosive attacking play and stability across all lines, the Sky Blues are proving to be a top contender for promotion to the Premier League next season.
