This is not only an annual sporting event, but also a special occasion marking the half-century journey of a tournament that has gone through history, closely associated with the development of the capital Hanoi and the sports training movement of the whole country.

The first Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run was held on October 6, 1974, with the name: "Connecting North and South" Run, with the participation of 468 athletes. Those runs that year carried the aspiration to unify the country, opening a lasting journey, and after 50 years, the tournament still retains its original spirit: Training health, improving physical fitness, arousing the spirit of sports in the community and spreading the aspiration for peace .

Over the past half century, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run has continuously grown in both scale and quality, with many impressive milestones, bringing positive changes in the development journey with the Capital.

A special milestone was in 1999, when Hanoi was awarded the title “City for Peace” by UNESCO. Immediately after that, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run was renamed “For Peace”, as an affirmation of the noble humanistic values that the tournament pursues. Each participating athlete, each step on the race track, carries within them a message: The desire for peace, solidarity, friendship - values that the people of the Capital always cherish, preserve and spread.

In 2004, realizing the need to improve professional skills and increase the attractiveness of the tournament, the Organizing Committee invited professional athletes from many provinces, cities and industries to participate. Since then, the tournament has been upgraded, not only limited to Hanoi but also spread throughout the country.

In 2008, when the Hanoi Moi Newspaper and the Ha Tay Newspaper merged, the famous Ha Tay Newspaper Cross Country Race was merged, helping the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Running Race expand to become the largest tournament in the country. Every year, from the inspection and response runs at the grassroots level to the city-level finals, the tournament attracts hundreds of thousands of athletes to participate.

The Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run is also a place to discover and nurture many sporting talents of the capital and the country. Names such as Dang Thi Teo, Nguyen Thi Tinh, Nguyen Chi Dong, Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Cong Nam, Nguyen Kien Trung, Nguyen Van Khoa... have grown up from the races of the race, becoming the pride of Vietnamese athletics. Along with that are emotional stories: Three generations in a family participating together, former athletes returning to accompany as sponsors, students stepping onto the track for the first time and finding their passion for sports.

In particular, the tournament is always closely associated with the movement "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho". Each season is an opportunity for tens of thousands of athletes of all ages and classes to participate, creating an exciting atmosphere, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, building a healthy and cohesive community. It is this diversity that has created the lasting attraction of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Running Tournament.

It can be affirmed that the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run has gone beyond the framework of a grassroots sports event. Over the past 50 years, the tournament has become a cultural beauty of Hanoi, contributing to promoting the image of a dynamic, friendly, and strongly integrated capital with international friends. And today, the enthusiastic running steps around Hoan Kiem Lake of the athletes once again continue to spread the sports spirit, affirming the belief and aspiration: For a civilized, vibrant Hanoi; for a united, developed Vietnam; for a peaceful and friendly world.
