This is the project Chim chirping, chim lo, chim thieu giu gi?, two interactive sound installations created in public spaces, initiated by Goethe-Institut Vietnam, in collaboration with Vietnamese and German partners (Think Playgrounds from Hanoi and Baltic Raw Org from Hamburg).
Mr. Oliver Brandt - Director of the Goethe-Institut Hanoi - said that the two groups of artists share a commitment to the community and the preservation of natural ecosystems. They have worked together for many months to develop two public artworks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Come here and listen to the birds chirp
The two works are a combination of wood carving, ornithology , ecology and AI technology.
A multidisciplinary combination in an interesting idea, creating "listening stations" for the sounds of nature, especially birdsong, to understand what the birds are expressing.
In Hanoi, the work resembles a tree house, built around a large tree trunk, with stairs leading up to the house.
Inside the house surrounding the tree trunk, there is a machine to read the sounds of birds flying over this area, recorded directly from specialized microphones mounted on the tree canopy, and an information board about the bird species that regularly reside in the Red River area where the work is installed.

Ms. Móka Farkas - one of two German artists from the Baltic Raw Org group participating in this project - explains how the work works.
When people step up to the tree house, if at the right time there are many birds chirping in the early morning or late afternoon, the microphone on the tree canopy will pick up the birds chirping and transmit it to the machine placed in the tree house.
Artificial intelligence will analyze these songs to identify what kind of bird it is from the huge data set that is the result of the world's ornithology. Once it has identified the bird that has just sung, the machine will play condensed information about this bird, the scientific information is explained in an attractive, easy-to-understand literary language.
When there are no birds chirping, after 10 minutes of waiting, the machine will automatically play information about the bird species that usually live in the area where the artwork is located.
At the visit to the work on the afternoon of September 19, many attendees shared the same feeling that the work had a very interesting idea.

Big dream: People will be more sensitive to ecological issues
Talking about the meaning of the work that the artists want to convey, Ms. Móka Farkas shared that the group of artists hopes that with this work placed in a public space inviting everyone to visit, it will help people be more sensitive to ecological stories, care more about the environment, and know how to listen to the wild sounds around them.
Artists create a space for a gentle dialogue with the surrounding nature, encouraging the community to think differently about the environment.
"That is our big dream: environmental awareness is ingrained in people's blood, and from there, social change and progress can be created," Ms. Móka Farkas told Tuoi Tre Online .
Ms. Kim Duc, representative of Think Playgrounds group, said that like other projects of Think Playgrounds, this project also has the active participation of local people in the process of building the work.
At the inauguration ceremony of this work on the evening of September 19, many people around the Chuong Duong forest park area came to welcome his beautiful, meaningful and novel work.
