He expressed hope that "the United States can continue to firmly support Taiwan and strengthen bilateral cooperation and relations." He also hoped that the two US congressmen and "Taiwan's friends in the US Congress " could continue to support Taiwan in strengthening its defense capabilities.

Congressmen Diaz-Balart and Bera are leaders of a group of US Congressmen focused on improving US-Taiwan relations.

Congressman Diaz-Balart told Mr. Lai that his main message was that America's support for Taiwan was steadfast and "100% bipartisan."

US destroyer passes through Taiwan Strait, China reacts

There is currently no information about China's reaction to the visit to Taiwan by the two congressmen Diaz-Balart and Bera. Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning told reporters on January 10 that US lawmakers should "stop sending the wrong signal to the separatist forces demanding Taiwan independence."

China has also repeatedly warned the US to stop supporting Taiwan and this issue has often become a thorn in Sino-US relations, according to Reuters.
