The traffic accident occurred on the afternoon of October 13 when a bus carrying high school students overturned in the town of Hawzen, in the eastern region of Tigray. Kiros Guesh, Director of the Office of Education in the Tigray Interim Administration, confirmed that at least six students were killed and 44 others were injured to varying degrees.
Mr. Kiros Guesh also said that the police are currently investigating the cause of this fatal accident.
The East African nation has one of the lowest rates of car ownership per capita in the world . However, fatal traffic accidents are still common, often caused by poor roads, reckless driving, a flawed driver licensing system and lax enforcement of safety rules.
Previously, on October 6, a bus accident occurred carrying dozens of migrants in a southern state of Mexico, killing at least 17 people and injuring 15 others.
