Can Gio Whale Festival launched a campaign to raise funds to support people affected by storm No. 3.

On September 17, the Organizing Committee of the Can Gio Whale Festival announced that it had successfully organized the 2024 Can Gio Fishermen's Festival and launched a fundraising campaign to support people affected by storms and floods in the northern provinces during the festival.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan - Vice Chairman of Can Gio District People's Committee (HCMC), the annual Nghinh Ong Can Gio Festival is one of the biggest marine cultural activities in HCMC, becoming a cultural beauty of the people living along the Can Gio coast. The festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013.

According to a representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City, in 2024, the total output of the aquatic products industry is estimated to reach nearly 42,300 tons, an increase of 5.5% over the same period and 73.3% compared to the yearly plan. Can Gio district alone currently has 683 vessels exploiting nearshore waters and offshore fishing. The output reached 12,300 tons, achieving an average income of 21.5 - 22.5 million VND/vehicle/month (an increase of 5%).

Inshore fishing activities have stable incomes reaching 6.3 - 7.5 million VND/vehicle/month. Aquaculture, high-tech farming, and valuable livestock (shrimp, bird's nest, etc.) all have increased output. Many new models bring high economic efficiency. Notably, 53 OCOP products have reached 3 - 4 star standards, 18 aquatic products have been evaluated and classified by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and recognized as 3 - 4 star OCOP products, etc.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Can Gio district and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City launched a fundraising campaign to support people in flood-hit areas in the Northern provinces, with the participation of local agencies, units and a large number of fishermen, aquaculture households and artists of the city.
