The identity of the head coach of the Korean national team has been revealed, it is not Mr. Park Hang Seo

On the afternoon of February 27, the Korean National Team Strengthening Committee and the Korean Football Association (KFA) announced the identity of the interim head coach of the national team. After consideration, the person chosen was Hwang Sun Hong, who is leading the Korean U23 team, not Mr. Park Hang Seo.

According to the explanation from the Korean press, former football star Hwang Sun Hong was chosen because he is leading the U23 Korea team quite well and has many good relationships with the current Korean national team players. Meanwhile, coach Park Hang Seo, although successful during his time leading the Vietnamese national team, has been out of top football for nearly a year and is considered to not have many relationships with the current Korean national team players.

The KFA also announced that coach Hwang Sun Hong will lead the Korean national team in two matches against Thailand in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March before returning to work with the Korean U23 team to prepare for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship in April. Then, by the end of May, the KFA will announce the official coach of the Korean national team.
