Series of "anti-congestion" technologies at Noi Bai airport before Tet peak

On the afternoon of February 5, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan and leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority inspected Noi Bai Airport. The inspection was both to wish a happy new year and encourage aviation workers, and to check the maintenance of service quality and ensure security and safety during the Lunar New Year.

Deputy Minister Tuan presented Tet gifts from the Transport Industry Union to officers and employees of the Northern Airports Authority and Noi Bai Airport.

On February 5, Noi Bai Airport served 514 flights, not the busiest day of the Lunar New Year. At the domestic terminal, only 8 out of 24 security screening gates were in operation. According to the plan, the peak day before Tet at Noi Bai is February 7 (December 28) with 605 flights and 98,000 passengers. The peak day after Tet is February 15 (January 6) with 108,000 passengers.

At the T2 international terminal, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan inspected the automatic immigration control gate system (autogate) installed by the Ministry of Public Security to help speed up procedures for international passengers.

If passengers use a chip-embedded passport, the process of entering through the autogate takes less than 1 minute. Meanwhile, in the manual entry area, each person takes about 5-10 minutes.

Previously, queuing up to do immigration procedures was a source of frustration for many passengers and created a bad impression of Vietnam's international airport gateway.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan also brought Tet gifts from the Ministry of Transport to the Noi Bai airport air traffic control tower. Here, on the morning of February 2, the air traffic control crew experienced a fog "as thick as a glass of milk" (described by the crew chief), which has only appeared 3 times in 10 years.

Visibility below operating threshold has caused take-off and landing operations at Noi Bai to be delayed, leading to a series of flight cancellations at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC).

According to records on the afternoon of February 5, the sky was still foggy but did not greatly affect the controllers' visibility. Flight operations were running smoothly.

He also went to the AOCC Operation Coordination Center, which is considered the "brain" of Noi Bai with the function of monitoring and coordinating all airport activities.

Here, the operating unit said the airport coordinated decision-making model (A-CDM) significantly shortened the time to fix the fog problem on February 2. By the afternoon of the same day, take-off and landing operations had been restored.

In addition to technologies serving flight operations and aviation procedures, Noi Bai airport has also completed the installation of gantry cranes to prepare for a pilot non-stop toll collection for cars entering and exiting the port.

ACV technical staff are changing the location of signs, preparing for the pilot operation of non-stop toll collection.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter on the afternoon of February 5, the leader of Noi Bai airport is still uncertain about the time when the airport will officially apply non-stop toll collection. This person affirmed that all equipment and technology issues are ready but still have to wait for the completion of legal procedures to implement.
