Tornadoes and heavy rains cause much damage in Hai Phong

According to the People's Committee of Chu Van An Ward, Hai Phong City, in the early morning of October 7, due to the circulation of storm No. 11, heavy rain and a tornado caused property damage to many houses and schools in the area. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.

According to preliminary statistics up to 11:30 on October 7, there were 5 schools: Ho Chi Minh Primary School, Ho Chi Minh Secondary School, Chi Minh Kindergarten, Thai Hoc Primary School and Thai Hoc Secondary School affected by the circulation of storm No. 11 such as: broken corrugated iron roofs, collapsed fences, doors, glass walls... in which, Thai Hoc Primary School and Secondary School had a sunken and low ground so the ground was flooded about 50cm deep with total damage of about over 500 million VND.

Heavy rain and tornado also damaged 18 houses with regular corrugated iron roofs, cold corrugated iron roofs, brick walls, plastic ceilings, glass doors... with total estimated damage of over 700 million VND.

Faced with the impact of the storm, the Ward People's Committee established two working groups to inspect, count, and assess the extent of damage. The Ward People's Committee leaders also directed the residential groups of Tuong and Trai Sen to concentrate on-site forces to support the affected households to temporarily overcome the damage to ensure their daily life and safety.

The ward leaders also directed the affected schools to urgently come up with temporary solutions to ensure the safety of people and other properties. At the same time, the local government also requested the owners of fish cages on the river in the area to continue to secure and harvest their products; minimizing damage to people and property.

Currently, the Ward People's Committee continues to organize serious on-duty shifts, regularly closely monitoring the storm's circulation developments on mass media, and the Central and City's directive documents on prevention and control of storm No. 11.

At the same time, focus on directing residential groups and units that have suffered damage and are affected to quickly overcome the damage to ensure the safety of people and property. Continue to inspect and patrol the irrigation system and key, vulnerable projects; be ready with response plans when an emergency occurs.
According to the city's Hydrometeorological Station, on October 7, Hai Phong continued to have widespread showers and there was a risk of localized flooding on some roads.
