(Dan Tri) - According to the Ministry of Education and Training , if the 10th grade entrance exam has a fixed third subject, from the beginning of 6th grade, students will only pay attention and focus on the subject they will take the exam, affecting the time and quality of studying other subjects.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporters this morning (January 10), Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Director of the Department of Secondary Education , Ministry of Education and Training, said that the requirement for fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training is comprehensive education in the basic education stage.
Therefore, the responsibility of schools when teaching students at secondary level is to ensure that students are comprehensively educated, fully equipped with basic general knowledge as a foundation for them to continue studying at higher levels and have good career orientation.
Therefore, if the regulation of the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam is fixed, whether students like it or not, from the beginning of 6th grade, they will have to pay close attention and focus on the subject they will take the exam, affecting the time and quality of studying other subjects.

This prevents students from acquiring comprehensive knowledge, causing disadvantages in accumulating knowledge or participating in the labor market later.
For example, he said that if there were three subjects: math, literature and English, students would only focus on these three subjects and not spend time on other subjects such as history, geography, nature, etc., leading to not being fully equipped with knowledge to study at higher levels.
"Regarding the regulations, the third exam subject or test will be announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year to balance students' focus on completing all subjects according to the program. However, at that time, students still have enough time to review and prepare both knowledge and psychology for the exam subjects, ensuring balance and fairness among all localities across the country for students to study and review for the exam," said Mr. Thanh.
The subjects receiving bonus points are secondary school students who win provincial-level prizes organized by the Department of Education and Training or in coordination with other departments and branches organized on a province-wide scale.

Regarding the above issue, the Director of the Department of Secondary Education said that the Ministry of Education and Training also clearly stipulates: "The incentive points are added to the total admission score, calculated on a 10-point scale for each subject and exam. In which, the first prize is added 1.5 points; the second prize is added 1 point; the third prize is added 0.5 points".
This is a nationwide regulation to ensure fairness between localities.
"The national general education program does not target secondary school students. Therefore, the regulations on incentive points do not include students who win prizes in the national general education program.
The Ministry of Education and Training currently has no regulations on exams for gifted students at the secondary level, nor does it have any regulations on specialized schools at the secondary level. Furthermore, the goal of the basic education stage is comprehensive education.
"If localities organize competitions for gifted students at the secondary level to encourage gifted students, they must not include incentive points in the high school admission scores, ensuring fairness for all students," said Mr. Thanh.
