Beware of landslides due to floods in Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh

It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh provinces will continue to have moderate to heavy rain. Warning: prolonged heavy rain, saturated soil and rocks, high flood levels on rivers, potential risk of landslides, local authorities and people need to focus on prevention and timely response.

In the past 24 hours, from 4:00 a.m. on October 8 to 4:00 a.m. today (October 9), the provinces of Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh had moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places had very heavy rain such as Hoang Thu Pho 26.6mm (Lao Cai); Hung Duc 43mm (Tuyen Quang); Luong Bang 24.4mm (Thai Nguyen); Vinh Phong 12.8mm (Cao Bang); Xuan Huong 49.8mm (Bac Ninh);...

Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are close to saturation (more than 85%) or have reached saturation.

It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall of 5-10mm, in some places more than 20mm.

The meteorological agency said that recently, in the mountainous areas of the Northern provinces, there has been continuous heavy rain, the soil and rocks are saturated, the floods on the rivers are still at high levels, so there is a high risk of landslides even when the rain has reduced or not rained.
