Network of local governments promoting sustainable development in the East Asia maritime region

DNO - On June 19, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Quang Nam, Chairman of the Network of Local Governments Participating in Integrated Coastal Management (PNLG) under the Partnership for Marine Environmental Management in East Asia (PEMSEA), chaired the 15th online conference of the PNLG Executive Committee.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Quang Nam suggested that members actively exchange and discuss the PNLG annual forum program in 2024, scheduled to take place from November 5 to November 9, 2024 in Xiamen city, China.

At the same time, discuss the development of the network in the coming time, to promote network development and lay the foundation for the East Asia region to better manage the sea in the future.

The PNLG Chairman also emphasized that since its official establishment in 2006, PNLG has made efforts to promote experience exchange and practical cooperation among members in integrated coastal management; strengthen the role of local governments and promote sustainable marine development in the East Asia sea region.

“In November this year, we will welcome all PNLG officials and members to Xiamen (China) to attend the PNLG Annual Forum 2024. This will be a valuable opportunity for us to further promote PNLG and increase PNLG's influence in the East Asia Sea region,” Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Quang Nam emphasized.

At the same time, he expressed his hope that with the joint efforts of all localities, especially members of the network, PNLG will fully promote its role to contribute to achieving the United Nations' sustainable development goals at the local government level.

At the conference, leaders of the PNLG Secretariat, the PEMSEA Resource Fund Executive Board and PNLG members discussed the results of activities in 2023 and the first half of 2024 as well as activities in the coming time; preparations for the organization of the PNLG Annual Forum with the theme "Blue Synergy for a Shared Future of a Sustainable and Resilient Ocean", the opening ceremony of the East Asia Summit (EAS 2024) and World Ocean Week in Xiamen City (China) in November 2024.
