Facebook Algorithm Upgrade: Users Have More 'Power' Over Displayed Content

DNVN - Meta has just announced a new update to Facebook's algorithm, focusing on improving the experience of watching short videos like Reels. This adjustment gives users more control over the content displayed, while also applying artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest videos and keywords that better suit personal preferences.

Meta - Facebook's parent company - has just launched a new algorithm update, with the goal of more personalizing users' video viewing experience. The highlight of this change is to increase users' control over the content displayed, especially in the short video segment Reels.

According to Meta, the new update allows users to easily express their interest or disinterest in a particular type of content. Users can select “Not Interested” directly on the video or through the comments section. Based on that feedback, the content recommendation system will automatically adjust, making the personal news feed more reflective of each person’s actual interests.

In addition, the “Save” feature has also been improved to increase convenience. Now, users can collect and organize their favorite Reels videos or articles in the same place, easily finding them when needed. This is considered an upgrade that helps Facebook compete better with short video platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Along with these changes, Meta continues to promote the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in its products. One of the new features is “Vibes” - a short video source consisting of AI-generated content, integrated into Meta AI. According to Meta experts, AI technology not only helps automate the content recommendation process but also learns from user interaction behavior to create a more “appropriate” entertainment experience.

Facebook’s new algorithm also prioritizes new content, promising that “users will see 50% more Reels uploaded on the same day.” This allows users to get faster access to trends and trending topics, instead of just seeing old videos that have gone viral.

In parallel, Facebook Reels also added an AI-powered search suggestion feature, similar to the keyword suggestion section on TikTok. When users watch a video, AI will automatically display related keywords below, helping them discover more content on the same topic or from other creators.

The constant tweaking of the algorithm and the upgrade of the personalized experience shows that Meta is placing a strong emphasis on short-form video content, a trend that is dominating social networks today. Analysts say this effort is not only to retain young users - a group of people who are increasingly turning to TikTok - but also to help Facebook maintain its position in the increasingly fierce competition between video platforms.
