The Mexican Congress has approved a policy to close ineffective government advisory agencies to reduce the burden on the national budget.
The announcement by the Constitutional Commission of the Mexican Congress said that the agencies expected to close include: the Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data; the Federal Telecommunications Institute and the National Competition Commission; the Social Development Policy Evaluation Commission; the National Energy Regulation Commission; the National Hydrocarbon Commission; and the National Education Improvement Commission.
These are organizations whose functions and tasks overlap with many other agencies, making government operations more complicated while spending a large amount of budget each year to operate.
According to calculations, since coming into operation in 1990, these agencies have spent a total of 32.3 billion USD.
