A family reported that their son was tricked into going to the Philippines and demanding ransom.

On May 20, Gia Rai City Police said that the unit had received a complaint from a family whose 23-year-old son was tricked into going to the Philippines to do 'light work with high salary', demanding a ransom of 50 million VND. Currently, the case is being verified and clarified.

According to the report of Mr. Lien Khanh (residing in Nhan Dan A hamlet, Tan Phong commune, Gia Rai town), through NH's Facebook, his son Lien Dy Khang (23 years old, living with the family) was introduced by an acquaintance in the same commune to work in the Philippines with a salary of 28 million VND/month. The job is to stand in front of a computer to sell products online and the entire cost of leaving the country is covered. The family only has to pay for the trip from Bac Lieu to Tan Son Nhat airport (HCMC).

On April 24, Khang went to Ho Chi Minh City to go to the Philippines as promised. However, the job was not as H. had introduced.

In the Philippines, Khang was held in an 18-story building near an airport. The job he was instructed to do was sit in front of a computer, but not to sell, but to find customers to lure them into trading stocks. Specifically, he was to find elderly Vietnamese people on social networks, confide in them, and after gaining their trust, invite them to buy stocks.

After 3 days of working, Khang discovered that this was a scam to deceive the elderly, when they had lured them to invest enough, they would disappear. There were many Vietnamese people in the 18-story building. All of them were not allowed to use their personal phones, and within a month they could not find customers, and when they brought money back to them, they were sold to another owner.

Realizing that he was making money by cheating, Khang quit his job and returned home. However, the manager forced Khang to pay 50 million VND to get his identity papers back to Vietnam.

According to Mr. Lien Khanh, his family is poor, and their main income comes from selling fruits in front of their house. Therefore, he had to borrow 60 million VND, of which 50 million VND was transferred to redeem his son, and the remaining 10 million VND was sent to his son to buy a plane ticket back to Vietnam. On May 12, Khang returned home and went with his father to the local police to report the incident.

Currently, the above mentioned scam to the Philippines, demanding ransom is being verified and clarified by Gia Rai Town Police.
