A mother in Hanoi was scammed out of more than 300 million VND when she wanted her child to become a "child model".

On March 3, Hanoi City Police issued a warning about fraudulent methods of appropriating property when participating in child model recruitment programs, summer camps... on social networks.

According to the authorities, on February 26, Phung Town Police (Dan Phuong District, Hanoi City) received a report from Ms. N. that she had been robbed of more than 300 million VND.

The report stated that Ms. N. went on Facebook to learn about and register her child as a child model. With an attractive offer, she was lured into buying products in order to register her child as a model.

Ms. N. then transferred 11 times with the amount of more than 300 million VND into the accounts of the subjects but did not receive a refund.

Hanoi police warn that through social networks, bad guys will invite parents to let their children apply to be child models for fashion brands.

The challenge for parents who want their children to participate in the "child model" contest is to transfer money to buy the product, then let their children model for photos to introduce and promote the product on social networks.

"The subjects will pay commissions and fees to "incentivize" parents to participate. But when the amount of money transferred into the account increases, the subjects will appropriate this money," the police pointed out the fraud method.

Therefore, authorities recommend that people be vigilant, inform relatives and friends about the above tricks, avoid falling into the traps of bad guys; at the same time, regularly monitor and update crime information for prevention.

When detecting cases of fraud, people need to immediately report to the nearest police station.
