Retired cadres receive pension in Phu Xuan ward

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, a retired official (Thuan Hoa ward, Hue city) shared: “I just received a call claiming to be a Social Insurance employee, saying that I need to verify my records to "avoid having my pension cut". This person also sent a link, asking me to declare my bank account information and enter an OTP code. Because I was cautious, I asked my son and found out that it was a scam that could cause me to lose all the money in my account.”

On August 1, Vietnam Social Security deployed the unification of personal identification numbers/CCCD with social security codes, participants do not need to carry out any additional procedures, insurance benefits and pensions are still fully guaranteed. Taking advantage of this, some subjects impersonated Hue City Social Security employees, called participants, especially retired officials, asking them to bring their CCCDs to the social security agency to "synchronize data" or add Zalo friends to "guide information updates".
They explained that the purpose of providing information was to "integrate social insurance books and electronic health insurance cards; synchronize data for medical examination and treatment", or "update the VssID application - social insurance number", but in reality it was to appropriate people's assets.
Hue City Social Insurance affirmed that the unification of CCCD with social insurance code is done completely automatically on the system, participants and beneficiaries of health insurance, social insurance, and unemployment insurance do not need to declare or do any additional procedures. During the conversion process, all benefits are still guaranteed and not affected.
According to the leader of Hue City Social Insurance, people need to be especially vigilant: do not access strange links, do not provide OTP codes, bank passwords or any personal information to people of unknown identity. When needing to adjust information, you should directly contact the Social Insurance agency, call the hotline 1900.9068 for support, or do it on the National Public Service Portal, Vietnam Social Insurance Public Service Portal, or VssID application - Social Insurance number. In case of detecting fraudulent behavior, people need to immediately report to the nearest police agency or Social Insurance for timely handling.

Experts recommend that the elderly should talk to relatives when receiving suspicious calls, and absolutely do not provide financial information over the phone. Local authorities and associations also need to increase propaganda and guidance on how to identify new scams to protect the safety of retired officials and the people.
