Woman attacks multiple Asians in New York

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said hate and harassment have absolutely no place on the streets of Manhattan.

NextShark reported on June 2 that a woman in New York City (New York State, USA) has just been prosecuted for serious crimes related to a series of attacks targeting people of Asian descent on the Upper West Side.

According to CNN citing information from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, defendant Camila Rodriguez (29 years old) was prosecuted in two indictments of the New York State Supreme Court for a series of crimes related to assault and harassment.

Prosecutors said the six attacks occurred between March 16 and May 11. The woman is accused of pulling an Asian woman’s hair on West 108th Street on March 22 and slapping her in the face after she spoke to her in Mandarin. Rodriguez also punched her after the two fell to the ground.

On April 8, the defendant pulled the hair of a Chinese woman who was waiting for a table with two of her friends outside a restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue. One of the victim’s friends pushed Rodriguez away, but the woman pushed her electric scooter into his leg.

A waiter at the Asian restaurant then announced that a table was available and was attacked by Rodriguez.

On April 21, the defendant grabbed a Filipino woman by the hair at the corner of West 104th Street and Broadway, pushed her to the ground, and punched her in the face multiple times.

According to prosecutors, the defendant also attacked others on March 16, April 27 and May 11, including kicking a Korean woman near the steps of a subway station, spitting on a Chinese man and slapping a Korean man.

"Hate and harassment have absolutely no place on the streets of Manhattan, and New Yorkers of all backgrounds deserve to feel safe," Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said after Rodriguez's indictment in connection with a series of attacks targeting people of Asian descent.
