Building a team of courageous lawyers, determined to eliminate "degenerate" people

On the evening of October 9, the Vietnam Bar Federation solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam Lawyers' Traditional Day (October 10, 1945 - October 10, 2025). President Luong Cuong attended and delivered a speech.

Mr. Do Ngoc Thinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Bar Federation, said that from only a few dozen lawyers at the beginning of the August Revolution, by September 30, 2025, the whole country had 21,084 lawyers and more than 6,000 law practice organizations.

Throughout the development process, the team of lawyers has actively contributed to the work of law-making, participating in everything from consulting, policy criticism, legal comments, to supervising the law enforcement process.

At the same time, directly participating in hundreds of thousands of criminal, civil, administrative, economic , labor cases..., contributing to clarifying the objective truth of the case, ensuring the principle of litigation, protecting the right to defense, preventing wrongful convictions, and accompanying judicial reform.

In many complicated cases, lawyers not only protect legal rights but also speak out strongly against violations of people's freedom, honor, dignity, and property...

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President highly appreciated and warmly commended the great contributions of the Vietnamese lawyers and the Vietnam Bar Federation to the cause of national liberation and reunification in the past, as well as in the cause of building and firmly defending the Fatherland today.

However, in addition to the great achievements, the Vietnamese lawyers still have some limitations and shortcomings. Each lawyer and the Vietnam Bar Federation need to seriously learn from experience, regularly study, practice, strive, promote results, advantages, overcome limitations and shortcomings, and work together to resolve difficulties and obstacles, to further improve the quality of work in the practice process.

The President stressed that the country is entering a new era with enormous opportunities and fortunes, but also faces many difficulties and challenges. The work of building a socialist rule-of-law state, socio-economic development and international integration is posing increasingly high demands and tasks.

The Vietnam Bar Federation, bar associations and the entire team of lawyers need to focus on building a team of lawyers with strong political will, high political responsibility, pure professional ethics, the nobility of the legal profession, exemplary in law enforcement, good professional skills, and qualifications on par with the region and the world. That is the core foundation that creates the reputation and quality of the legal profession in Vietnam.

Every lawyer must make continuous efforts to learn, practice ethics, courage, professional conscience, improve his/her knowledge, foreign languages, practical experience and professional skills; be ready, actively participate in and successfully carry out political and legal tasks assigned by the Party and State.

The President further noted that the Vietnam Bar Federation needs to continue promoting its traditions, achievements and valuable lessons in the process of building and growing, focusing on overcoming limitations and shortcomings in legal activities in recent times; resolutely fight against all acts of violating the law and professional ethics; eliminate from its ranks degenerate and corrupt lawyers who take advantage of their legal activities to distort the law, deny the Party's guidelines and policies, and go against the interests of the nation and people.
