Ta Dung - holding back travelers' footsteps
This is not the first time I have been to Ta Dung. But strangely, every time I return, this place gives me new feelings, as if nature always knows how to change its clothes, showing off a different beauty through each season, each morning. The winding road leading down to the lake is still the same, soft as a silk strip hugging the mountainside, but each time I pass by, I feel my heart calmer, more peaceful.
Late afternoon, Ta Dung welcomed me with rays of sunlight across the lake. Amidst the vast waves, small islands bobbed up and down like schools of fish swimming in a watercolor painting. The typical chill of the highlands made me close my shirt slightly, but my heart felt strangely warm. At night, amidst the starry sky, the sound of wind blowing through the thatched roof, the chirping of insects, the campfire lit to welcome the group of tourists dancing and singing, all blended into the gentle music of the mountains and forests.

Coming to Ta Dung, if you wake up early, you will see the fog covering the path, so white that you think you can touch it. From the lake, the fog begins to move, each thin layer surrounding the mountainside and then slowly disappearing with the first sunlight. The whole space seems to have just woken up after a long sleep. The sunlight gilded the water surface, reflecting on the green floating islands in the middle of the lake, creating a scene that is both magical and peaceful.
A group of young people from the city also got up early to row a boat out to the middle of the lake. A girl shared: “I have heard that Ta Dung is likened to the “Ha Long Bay of the Central Highlands”, but only when standing here, looking at the clouds and mountains reflecting on the sky, can I understand why”. That feeling is not unique to anyone. In Ta Dung, every moment, every angle opens up a different beauty, making people reluctant to leave.
The potential of a "green gem" in the middle of the jungle
Ta Dung tourist area belongs to Ta Dung commune, located at an altitude of about 850 m, with a cool and fresh climate all year round. Ta Dung Lake was formed from the Dong Nai 3 hydroelectric project, creating a water surface of more than 3,600 hectares with dozens of large and small islands, stretching like pearls in the heart of the Central Highlands.
Not only beautiful because of the landscape, Ta Dung is also a land with great potential for developing eco-tourism and resorts. Surrounding the lake is a primeval forest with rich flora and fauna, located in the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark area, which preserves many unique geological, biological and cultural values.
In recent years, more and more tourists have come to Ta Dung. They come to watch the sunrise on the lake, to listen to the stories of the local people, to smell the grass and trees in the morning mist. Tourism services here are developing in a direction close to nature, mainly small accommodation models blending into the landscape, preserving the original pristine beauty. The local government orients Ta Dung to develop into a key eco-tourism area associated with forest conservation, landscape protection and promoting the cultural identity of the M'nong and Ma ethnic groups...
Before leaving Ta Dung, I stopped by a small house surrounded by lush green coffee plantations. Mr. Y Thoan, who has lived here for more than half his life, poured a cup of hot tea, looked out at the lake and slowly said: “Now that there are many visitors, the people are very happy. But I only hope that in the future, if there are big investors, they will preserve the soul of Ta Dung, not destroy the mountains, not fill the lake, not destroy this pristine beauty. Losing it means losing the soul of this land.”
His words were like a silent note echoing in the afternoon wind. Ta Dung is not only a scenic spot, but also a place that preserves the pristine beauty of the Central Highlands mountains and forests, a beauty that needs to be cherished and developed in respect and harmony with nature.
Saying goodbye to Ta Dung as the afternoon mist gradually falls. The shimmering lake surface reflects the last rays of the day. The small islands in the distance seem to float in the sea of clouds, hazy and charming. A glimpse of Ta Dung, just that is enough to make the traveler bring back a memory...
