In order to meet the demand for seed for the development of sturgeon farming, the Department of Science and Technology of Lam Dong province has coordinated with units and enterprises to implement a project to apply technology to produce Russian sturgeon and Siberian sturgeon seeds. Within the framework of the project, experts from the Research Institute for Aquaculture III directly undertake the technical process of breeding such as raising parent fish, selecting mature fish, collecting sperm and eggs, artificial insemination, rearing larvae and raising fingerlings, contributing to proactively providing high-quality seeds in the locality.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Thuy, Director of the National Center for Freshwater Aquaculture Breeding in the Central Region (Region III Aquaculture Research Institute) said that the process of producing sturgeon breeds has been widely deployed, meeting about 20% of the domestic demand for breeds. It is expected that in the next few years, Vietnam and Lam Dong province will be proactive in 60-70% of sturgeon breed sources, when dozens of tons of parent fish at research facilities and businesses reach reproductive age.

Lam Dong is considered a locality with favorable natural conditions for developing cold-water fish farming, especially sturgeon. Identifying this as a key economic product, the province aims to become the cold-water fish center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Currently, Lam Dong's cold-water fish output reaches more than 2,300 tons/year, with a value of about 450 billion VND, leading the country. Each year, organizations and individuals in the province also produce over 5 million sturgeon fry, meeting the needs of the province and supplying many other localities.

Cold-water fish is a competitive product of Lam Dong, so the province will focus on in-depth investment, aiming to form a chain of high value-added products, thereby improving competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen emphasized
Therefore, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen requested that sectors and localities continue to guide and support organizations and individuals in the production and breeding of cold-water fish; speed up the issuance of certificates of eligibility for production according to regulations. At the same time, create favorable legal and technical conditions for enterprises to proactively research, produce breeds, invest in infrastructure, effectively exploit potentials and natural advantages, contributing to the sustainable development of cold-water fish farming in the province.
