The blooming season of rhododendron flowers attracts tourists to Tam Dao

The 2024 Rhododendron Flower Festival was opened by the People's Committee of Tam Dao Town on the evening of March 1. This is the first time this locality has organized a separate festival to honor a flower that symbolizes faithful love, is very popular with the people and is in its most beautiful flower season of the year.

Last weekend, from March 2 to 3, Tam Dao welcomed tens of thousands of tourists to admire and take photos with hundreds of colorful azalea pots displayed and introduced in the central square of the town - the main space of the 2024 Azalea Festival.

The road to Tam Dao is at its most beautiful when colorful azaleas bloom along both sides.

Coming to Tam Dao after Tet, right from the foot of the mountain, visitors will be surprised to see rhododendrons blooming along the nearly 10km long road up to the town center. The higher you go, the thicker and more beautiful the rhododendrons bloom. Walking along the roads in the center of Tam Dao town, visitors can easily see rows of rhododendrons blooming at the foot of the hills and in people's gardens. Many restaurants, hotels and resorts also choose rhododendrons to play during the Lunar New Year.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bach, a resident of Tam Dao town, rhododendron is a wild flower that grows naturally on the hillsides. The flowers bloom from February to April every year. Previously, rhododendron trees were cut down and sold in large numbers, but in recent years, local people have been proactive in protecting and caring for them, even planting them in their gardens to beautify the grounds and attract tourists.

The naturally planted azalea bushes in the central square of Tam Dao town bloomed just in time for the festival, attracting many tourists to take pictures.

"I have never seen azaleas in Tam Dao blooming as brightly and beautifully as this year. The flowers bloom right on the occasion of the festival, so the number of tourists visiting is very crowded and bustling," said Ms. Bach. Sharing with Thanh Nien , Mr. Dang Hoang Lam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tam Dao Town, said that Tam Dao tourism has received good news since the first days of the new year of Giap Thin. From the 1st to the 7th of Tet, Tam Dao welcomed 35,000 visitors, of which 11,000 stayed overnight.

Tam Dao Town was successful right from the first azalea flower festival season when it attracted thousands of visitors in the first two weekends, when the festival just opened.

According to Mr. Dang Hoang Lam, Tam Dao Town's pilot program of organizing art programs at the town's central square on holidays and Tet has attracted a large number of tourists to Tam Dao.

Many restaurants and cafes plant azaleas in their premises to beautify the landscape and attract customers to take photos.

"2024 is the first year we organize the azalea festival and hope to turn this festival into a new tourism product, attracting tourists to Tam Dao. Through this festival, the local government encourages people to plant new azalea species, contributing to preserving, promoting the value, and honoring the unique flower of Tam Dao mountains and forests," said Mr. Lam.

Not only the festival space, coming to Tam Dao at this time, visitors can easily see poetic roads and houses with blooming azaleas.
