That's because Washington has spent most of the $48 billion aid package approved by Congress in December.
According to this source, the US has only about 6 billion USD left to buy weapons and supplies for Kiev, meaning US aid to Ukrainian forces could soon be stopped.
Members of Congress are reportedly alarmed that the White House will likely soon be unable to provide military aid to Ukraine, especially as Kiev plans a counterattack against Russia.
“It is important that the administration promptly provide Ukraine with what it needs,” Senator Susan Collins told Pentagon leaders last week.
The White House is discussing a completely new aid package designed to keep supplies flowing to Ukraine, Politico reported.
Currently, the administration of President Joe Biden is deadlocked with the Republican-controlled House of Representatives over raising the US debt ceiling. Washington is burdened with an estimated public debt of more than 31 trillion USD and is at risk of default.
