Media reveals President Biden's secret actions with Ukraine, Trump's side strongly opposes

On November 27, Politico newspaper cited a document saying that US President Joe Biden secretly asked the US Congress to disburse an additional $24 billion in aid to Ukraine.

The Biden administration wants the money added to the US funding, which lawmakers are expected to approve in December. Two US congressional officials confirmed the information to the newspaper, adding that the request was received on November 25.

Of this $24 billion, two-thirds ($16 billion) is said to be used to replenish the US arsenal that will be transferred to Ukraine, while the rest is for the Security Assistance Initiative for the country.

In response to the above information, Sputnik news agency reported that the owner of the X website, billionaire Elon Musk, criticized this new proposal and assessed the aid package as "not good".

Mr. Biden's proposal also faced harsh criticism from some Republicans, including Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who said that the outgoing US President had wasted $4.7 billion of taxpayer money by "unilaterally forgiving Ukraine's debt."

“Congress must not give Biden a free gift to continue sabotaging his successor Donald Trump’s peace talks,” he wrote on X.

Mr. Biden's request comes amid uncertainty about the future of US policy toward the war in Ukraine after President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

Mr Trump has repeatedly criticised the large sums of US aid to Ukraine and promised a quick end to the conflict in the Eastern European country, raising concerns from Kiev and its allies that Washington would reduce or even halt military aid to Ukraine.

On November 26, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also announced that the Biden administration will ensure " Ukraine has the money, ammunition and forces to fight effectively in 2025 or negotiate, but must be in a strong position."

According to the US diplomat, Washington and its allies will continue efforts in the coming weeks to provide ammunition, mobilize forces, train the Ukrainian army and many other activities.
