Despite beating Myanmar in the group stage, when meeting this opponent again in the final, coach Mai Duc Chung said the Vietnamese women's team will face many difficulties.
There were no surprises in the semi-final between the Vietnamese women’s team and the host Cambodia. Huynh Nhu and her teammates won 4-0, thereby entering the final and meeting Myanmar – the team that surprisingly beat Thailand 4-2.
"The whole team is happy to be in the final. The Vietnamese women's team respects their opponents very much and Cambodia has also made a lot of progress. We worked hard to win. In this match, the team met the requirements set by the coaching staff, which was to win the match and preserve our strength," said coach Mai Duc Chung.
Regarding the final match against Myanmar, coach Mai Duc Chung was cautious despite having won against this opponent in the group stage. He said: "The Vietnamese women's team and Myanmar met in the group stage. Now when they play again, everything will be very difficult. I constantly follow the results of the remaining semi-final match. Myanmar was down 2 goals but then came back to win 4-2. In the upcoming final, whoever is luckier will win. Playing football is like fighting. We have to exploit the opponent's strengths and weaknesses to attack. The two teams understand each other very well. I think we cannot be subjective because of the victory in the group stage. We have to forget that match to focus completely on the final match. The team's goal is always the same. Trying every match to aim for the final victory."
Meanwhile, striker Huynh Nhu is confident that she and her teammates will play to their best and win the final: "After a long time playing in Portugal, I have also learned many things, such as controlling the ball more confidently, thereby doing better when returning to play for the national team. In the final, the whole team will try to win to bring joy to the fans."
Regarding the host team Cambodia, coach Gao Fulin said: “The players tried. We lost 0-4 but learned a lot. Before the match, we did not think we would lose heavily but hoped for a draw. But after the match, everyone could see the gap between the two teams. The Vietnamese team is more technical and experienced. Our players are still young. We know the Vietnamese women's team is very strong. The two teams are different in class. Hopefully in the future, Cambodian women's football can compete with Vietnam. We will try our best in the upcoming bronze medal match, try to play better with Thailand to bring victory to our home fans. Compared to before, the team has improved, the players coordinate better. That's why we got a ticket to the semi-finals."
