The Russian DIVGEN channel reported that the Russian army (RFAF) had turned the situation around north of Pokrovsk, where General Syrsky, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian army, had “all-in” and sent all his reserve forces there; in an attempt to cut off and partially encircle the Russian army group at the “Dobropolye salient”. However, the Russian army not only held its position, not allowing the Ukrainian army (AFU) to tighten its "pincers", but also turned it into an opportunity to destroy the Ukrainian army outside the fortifications, and began to push the AFU out of the settlements they had just recaptured.
According to Russian sources, by the evening of Sunday, September 28, the shock units of the RFAF Central Group of Forces not only recaptured Novoye Shakhove, but also regained control of Nikanorivka, which the AFU was trying to turn into a bridgehead to continue the blockade and encirclement of Russian units at the Dobropolsky “salient”. DIVGEN said that the Ukrainian army attacked Nikanorivka from the west and Pankivka from the east, leaving only a corridor of about 2.5 km wide controlled by the Russian army, completely surrounded by AFU fire. However, the Russian army not only defended well, but also gathered forces to counterattack, leading to the recapture of Nikanorivka. The recapture of Nikanorivka village allowed the Russians to advance further and expand the supply corridor for the Russians defending in the Kucherov Yar and Zolotoy Kolodez areas, which were considered the “tip” of the Dobropolye “salient”. According to Russian military experts, there is currently no solid front line at this position; both sides are operating in small groups and are actively using FPV UAVs and artillery. Meanwhile, the RFAF is gathering forces to continue its breakthrough north.
Russian news agency TASS, quoting Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), said that the shock troops of the RFAF Central Group of Forces advanced west of Pokrovsk, pushing the enemy away from Donetsk's largest coal mine, the Pokrovskoye mine. According to Mr. Kimakovsky, Russian troops have pushed Ukrainian troops out of their defensive positions at the main ventilation shaft of the Pokrovskoye mine, near the village of Kotlyne, west of Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian troops were partially destroyed, and some of them retreated towards Sergeyevka and the M04 Pavlograd-Pokrovsk highway. The fighting in the Kotlyne area has been going on for quite a while. Initially, according to the RFAF General Staff plan, Army Group Center was supposed to encircle Pokrovsk from the west and cut off the route to Pavlograd. However, the Ukrainians established a strong defense system here, causing the fighting to become a stalemate. Mr. Kimakovsky also added that the AFU General Staff is continuing to send a large number of reinforcements to the Pokrovsk region. According to Russian reporters and military sources, in Pokrovsk, almost the entire western part of the city is under Russian control; fighting is still going on in some areas. In the city, the battle is "interlocking" between the two sides, as Russian troops are operating throughout the city. According to German military expert Julian Röpcke, who is also a war correspondent for the German newspaper BILD, when he went to work at the Pokrovsk front, he did not discover the Russian army that was said to be "surrounded" near Pokrovsk, as reported by Ukrainian and Western media in recent days.
During his reporting trip to the Pokrovsk front last week, Julian Röpcke had conversations with Ukrainian servicemen, including about the RFAF being allegedly surrounded north of Pokrovsk, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously stated in a meeting with US President Donald Trump. Previously, within the framework of participating in the 80th session of the United Nations Security Council in New York (USA), President Zelensky had a meeting with US President Donald Trump. In this quick meeting, Mr. Zelensky informed Mr. Trump that the AFU not only neutralized the Russian breakthrough in the north of Pokrovsk, but also "defeated" the RFAF's 51st Army Group, part of the RFAF's strongest Central Army Group, and surrounded them. However, no matter how hard Röpke tried, he could not find any “encircled” Russian troops, and AFU soldiers in the Pokrovsk area “had never even heard” of any “encirclement.” “Not a single Ukrainian soldier I spoke to in that area saw any encirclement of Russian troops north of Pokrovsk,” Julian Röpcke wrote.
According to Russian sources, the situation north of Pokrovsk is really bad, because the AFU has sent most of its reserves there, trying to cut off the RFAF's communication between the breakthrough at the Dobropolye "salient" and the main force. However, the AFU's plan is still at a standstill, as the Russians have also sent the maximum reserve forces and firepower to prepare for another attack.
