TASS news agency reported that on October 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a gas pipeline from Russia to two Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

President Putin met in Moscow with his counterparts Shavkat Mirziyoyev (Uzbekistan) and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (Kazakhstan).

Mr Putin said that now, “green fuel” from Russia will be delivered to Kazakhstan, and part of it will be transferred to Uzbekistan.

The Russian leader stressed that this is the “largest trilateral energy project” that benefits all participating parties, contributing to strengthening the region's energy security.

Moscow has confirmed its position as a reliable gas supplier and is always ready to cooperate in this field, while Uzbekistan will have additional energy supplies, ensuring continuous supply for heating and lighting households and social facilities. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan will also solve the problem of gas shortages in the northern and eastern regions of the country.

Previously, President Putin said that Russian gas has never been supplied to Central Asian countries. Although a country rich in natural resources, Uzbekistan is facing a fuel shortage.

Russia's gas exports fell 21.5% in 2022 as the European Union (EU), the country's biggest gas buyer, significantly reduced imports related to the conflict in Ukraine.
