Russia says US will not be the center of 'new world order'

Russia has criticized the US president's claim that Washington must be the driving force in a “new world order,” saying such an “America-centric” vision is outdated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday (October 23) that while the country agrees on the need for a “new world order,” he does not believe the United States should take the lead.

“Any new system must not concentrate all the world's governance mechanisms in the hands of one country,” he said.

Mr Peskov was responding to US President Joe Biden's speech on October 20, in which he mentioned US involvement in foreign crises from Ukraine to Israel.

In his speech, Mr. Biden said the “world order” of the past half-century is “coming to an end” and that America needs to “unite the world” in a new order to create peace .

“I think we have a real opportunity to unite the world in a way that hasn’t been seen in a long time and raise the prospects for peace,” Mr. Biden said.

“In this part, we disagree because the US… whatever world order they talk about, they mean a US-centric world order, that is, a world that revolves around the US. It will not be like that anymore,” Mr. Peskov replied.
