105-year-old high school in Ho Chi Minh City

Go Vap Secondary School, Hanh Thong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, has just solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate its 105th anniversary.

This 105-year-old school is currently located at 1 Nguyen Du Street, Hanh Thong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The school was established on October 12, 1920, and used to be an elementary school with two campuses: the main campus with 5 classrooms called the general school, and the secondary campus with 2 classrooms called the village school.

In 1945, when the whole country entered the resistance war against the French, teachers and students of Go Vap Primary School joined the nation, put down their pens and went to war. The school was heavily damaged at this time and remained inactive for many years.

In early 1950, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Tra Van Khon's family, the school was renovated and 4 more classrooms were built, with 9 rooms and 18 primary school classes. By 1960, the school had 4 more classrooms built, meeting the growing learning needs of children in the area.

Since then, all 4th and 5th grade students of Go Vap district have gathered here, turning the small school into a key educational center of Go Vap district (old).

Over the decades, the school's name has changed many times. The secondary school used to be called: Hanh Thong 5 School, Tran Quoc Toan School, Go Vap 2 Secondary School, Go Vap 2 Secondary School. Since 2001, the school has officially been called Go Vap Secondary School.

The school is the pride of the local people, five names but one spirit of moving forward, training many generations of excellent students, contributing efforts and human resources to the two resistance wars against France and America to save the country; carrying out the task of training important human resources when the country was unified and building a peaceful country today.

Speaking at the ceremony today, October 11, Mr. Nguyen Dinh San - Principal of the school - said: Over the past years, with all the will, determination, willpower and sense of responsibility, teachers and students of Go Vap Secondary School have strived to excellently complete their tasks.

"In the current trend of integration and development, the school's teaching staff will continue to innovate teaching methods, teaching in an individualized manner, actively applying information technology, promoting students' initiative and creativity, paying special attention to training life skills, communication skills, skills in applying learned knowledge into practice, loving and respecting students' personalities.

"Educate students to follow Uncle Ho's 5 teachings, obey grandparents, parents, teachers, always care and help friends, so that they feel "Every day at school is a happy day", Mr. San shared.

Go Vap Secondary School was honored to receive the 3rd class Labor Medal awarded by the President .
