On the morning of September 23, France Football magazine announced Ousmane Dembele as the winner of the 2025 Golden Ball. However, the positions of two La Liga stars, Pedri (Barca) and Vinicius (Real Madrid), have caused much controversy.
Pedri finished only 11th in the vote, which was considered a big surprise, as many consider him the best midfielder in the world right now and expected him to be higher.
In the 2024-2025 season, Pedri scored 6 goals and provided 8 assists in 59 matches. The midfielder was an indispensable factor in helping Hansi Flick's team win the domestic treble (La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup).
Perhaps knowing he could not be in the top 10, the Spanish player did not go with the Barca members to Paris to attend the ceremony.
Not only Pedri, another big star of La Liga, Vinicius Jr. of Real Madrid also has a disappointing position when he is only ranked 16th. This is a big decline after he finished second in the 2024 vote.
Many even considered Vinicius a worthy winner last year, but it was Rodri who ultimately took the honours.
However, many fans still do not believe that he finished outside the top 10 with what he contributed to Real Madrid last season. After 30 appearances in La Liga last season, Vinicius scored 11 goals and had 8 assists.
However, La Liga still has two representatives in the top 10: Lamine Yamal (2nd place) and Kylian Mbappe (7th place).
In addition, the list of positions from 11 to 20 also includes: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG, 12th), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, 13th), Desire Doue (PSG, 14th) and Viktor Gyökeres (Arsenal, 15th).
Meanwhile, Barca's Robert Lewandowski is in 17th place, right behind Vinicius, Scott McTominay (Napoli, 18th), Joao Neves (PSG, 19th) and Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan, 20th).

The Ballon D'or is an award organized by France Football magazine to honor outstanding individuals, teams and coaches of the 2024-2025 season.
According to France Football, the Ballon d'Or is chosen based on three criteria: individual performance, team performance and fair play. 50 journalists from the top 50 countries in the FIFA men's rankings and 50 journalists from the top 50 countries in the FIFA women's rankings voted to choose the winner of the Ballon d'Or.
Each journalist selected 10 players, scoring them from 15 down to 1. The player with the highest total score was the winner.
