From experience, passion…

“The French writer Anais Nin once said: We write to experience life twice, in the moment and when looking back. For me, this is absolutely true. The days of writing the book 80 Years of National Assembly Foreign Affairs - From Theory to Practice gave me the opportunity to relive the years working in the National Assembly, with valuable experiences, directly participating and witnessing many foreign affairs events of the National Assembly and the State” - author, Dr. Ngo Duc Manh, former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, former Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation, shared at the book launch ceremony 80 Years of National Assembly Foreign Affairs - From Theory to Practice on October 18.

According to Dr. Ngo Duc Manh, the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the National Assembly (January 6, 1946 - January 6, 2026) is a significant event not only for the National Assembly, its agencies, and its deputies, but also an opportunity to look back on the glorious development path of the National Assembly, especially the achievements of the National Assembly's foreign affairs contributing to the cause of protecting and building the Fatherland and the cause of Renovation and comprehensive integration of the country. The idea of a project summarizing the 80-year journey of the National Assembly's foreign affairs was born like that.

However, the journey was not easy. “I kept in mind that a book about political theory, a monograph, must have historical significance, so I did not hesitate to travel, explore, and research archival sources. But I also wanted the book to be interesting, so I included milestones and stories of ambassadors and witnesses associated with major events, such as the first day a National Assembly delegation went abroad, the first event of receiving politicians at the National Assembly House... From there, I organized the information flow to make it attractive,” the author confided.

Former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung highly appreciated this effort, saying that the book 80 years of National Assembly foreign affairs - From theory to practice is the first in-depth research product that presents the most comprehensive and complete presentation of National Assembly foreign affairs from basic theoretical issues to foreign affairs activities since its inception.

“From the experience in the National Assembly's foreign affairs environment, the author has painstakingly researched, systematized, and selected many sources of information, documents, and archives. Thereby, presenting and analyzing in a comprehensive manner the foreign affairs activities of the National Assembly, from the position, role, and characteristics of the National Assembly's foreign affairs, to bilateral and multilateral foreign affairs and international treaties with specific evidence and sharing from insiders,” commented former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee (Term XII) Nguyen Van Son shared: “After nearly 50 years of working in foreign affairs, I believe that this publication also demonstrates the author’s sensitivity to a vast field that is demanding exploration. Writing about foreign affairs is not easy, writing about the foreign affairs of the National Assembly is even more difficult, without hard work and dedication it cannot be done.”

The book is an opportunity for me to share the story of the National Assembly's foreign affairs with those who are interested. Together, we can continue to spread positive values and participate in the development of the National Assembly in the new era."

Projecting the past into the future

Former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu said he spent a week carefully reading 80 Years of National Assembly Foreign Affairs - From Theory to Practice and found the book to be a handbook for delegates involved in the foreign affairs of the National Assembly. “Foreign affairs are a special activity of parliamentary diplomacy in a comprehensive, modern diplomacy. The author's merit is not only in the historical system but also in the distillation, inclusion, and analysis of events to highlight the foreign affairs of the National Assembly. For example, the author analyzed Vietnam's hosting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union - IPU 2015 in Hanoi - an event that is still considered a model of parliamentary diplomacy, making the book not only academically significant but also of great practical value.”
