During the visit, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai held talks and met with the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly and Vice President of Turkey; visited and worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Ankara and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Turkey.
According to a VNA reporter accompanying the delegation, at the headquarters of the Turkish Parliament, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai held talks with Vice Chairman of the Turkish Parliament Celal Adan.
Expressing his joy at visiting the beautiful country of Turkey for the first time, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai thanked the good feelings and warm welcome that the National Assembly and Turkish friends had given to the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation. Congratulating Turkey on its outstanding achievements in socio -economic development in the process of implementing the goals of the “Turkish Century Vision”, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Turkey.
Welcoming Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation to Türkiye, Vice President Celal Adan expressed his delight at the positive development of the bilateral relationship in recent times, especially after the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Türkiye (November 2023); congratulated Vietnam's achievements in economic, social and foreign affairs development in recent times, saying that the visit not only strengthened the relationship between the two legislative bodies but also contributed to promoting the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye; affirmed that the Turkish National Assembly is always interested in and ready to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly.
In a sincere and open atmosphere, the two sides agreed to continue to strengthen political trust, aiming to soon upgrade the Vietnam - Türkiye relationship to a new Partnership framework, creating momentum for bilateral cooperation. The two National Assembly leaders agreed on the need to promote cooperation in the fields of trade - investment, defense, security, education; promote people-to-people exchange, cultural connection, strengthen cooperation and local twinning, focusing on promoting cooperation between localities with strengths and many similarities, especially in the fields of tourism, culture and cultural heritage preservation. Vietnam is ready to be the gateway for Türkiye to access the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market while Türkiye is ready to be the bridge for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the Middle East, European and African markets.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation on the parliamentary channel, promote delegation exchanges at all levels, contacts between parliamentarians and professional agencies at all levels, exchange experiences in areas of mutual interest such as digital transformation, administrative reform, law-making, etc., and further promote the role of the Friendship Parliamentary Groups of each country. The two sides need to increase contacts, consultations, coordination and mutual support at multilateral parliamentary forums, especially the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP) and other multilateral parliamentary organizations.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai suggested that the two sides soon start negotiations on a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and that Türkiye soon consider and recognize Vietnam as a country with a full market economy and actively consider removing and limiting the initiation of investigations and applying anti-dumping measures on Vietnamese export goods.
The Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly asked the Turkish National Assembly deputies to pay attention to and support policies that create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Türkiye to integrate well into the local social life.
The Vice President of the Turkish National Assembly acknowledged the proposals of Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and pledged to forward these proposals to Turkish authorities for consideration and implementation.
During the visit, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai met with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz. Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz expressed his delight at the positive and substantive results in the cooperation between Turkey and Vietnam in recent times. Vietnam is currently Türkiye's second largest trade partner in ASEAN. Türkiye has officially implemented the issuance of electronic visas for Vietnamese citizens, helping to simplify travel and business procedures between the two countries. Turkish enterprises have participated in the construction of Long Thanh International Airport project - a key national project of Vietnam. Defense cooperation between the two countries has also been promoted, with important milestones such as the visit to Vietnam of the Turkish Defense Minister and the Defense Agreement between the two countries' Defense Ministries.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai highly appreciated the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye; suggested that both sides continue to give high priority to strongly promoting cooperation, focusing on the fields of trade - investment, security, national defense and defense industry, while enhancing local cooperation in areas of both sides' strengths such as tourism, culture, and cultural heritage preservation.
The two leaders agreed that the Vietnam-Türkiye relationship has developed positively in many fields, believing that bilateral cooperation still has much potential and room for development; proposed promoting the relationship through increasing delegation exchanges at all levels and expanding relationship channels from the government, Party, National Assembly to people-to-people channels, while continuing to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Joint Economic-Trade Committee and political consultation.
During the talks/meetings, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai respectfully conveyed President Luong Cuong's invitation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Vietnam soon. He also respectfully invited Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Celal Adan to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
Previously, on the evening of September 28, at a meeting with the Embassy's staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Türkiye, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai sent warm regards from the Party, State and National Assembly leaders to the Embassy's staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Turkey, highly appreciating the efforts of Ambassador Dang Thi Thu Ha and the Embassy staff, despite the large workload and limited staff, they have always completed their tasks excellently, promoting the positive development of Vietnam - Turkey relations.
Meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity, cohesion and positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Türkiye; informed people about new policies to support overseas Vietnamese; affirmed that the Vietnamese community is the inseparable flesh and blood of the Vietnamese people; requested the Embassy to continue to pay attention and do better work for overseas Vietnamese, and promote the early establishment of Vietnamese associations in the host country.
Also within the framework of the visit, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation had meetings and contacts with the Chairman of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency, Chairman of the Turkish Court of Audit, Deputy Governor of Istanbul, Leader of the Turkey - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Istanbul; worked with the Foreign Economic Relations Committee and a number of leading Turkish enterprises; visited the Mausoleum and museum of Leader Ataturk - the first President of Turkey, visited the Turkish Parliament Building and listened to an introduction to digital infrastructure, visited Ambarli Port - one of the four ports with the largest capacity in Turkey.
