Efforts to clean up the environment after floods

Floods have left thousands of houses and streets in Thai Nguyen covered in mud and rubbish. Putting aside their housework, sanitation workers spread out to the streets, persistently collecting and cleaning up rubbish.

During the historic flood, the house of Ms. Tran Thi Huyen, a worker of Environmental Sanitation Team No. 1, Thai Nguyen Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, was flooded up to the roof. Amidst the devastation and damage, Ms. Huyen and her colleagues still collected garbage on the streets, contributing to bringing cleanliness, safety and trust to people after the flood.

Environmental sanitation team No. 1 has 42 workers, but only 5 people have houses that are not flooded. On the first day of water receding, only 5-6 people can go out to work. Although the number of workers is small, they still show up on time and get to work right away. Not a single complaint, only dedication and responsibility to the community.

Ms. Tran Thi Kim Oanh, Captain of Environmental Sanitation Team No. 1, shared: We are in charge of Phan Dinh Phung Street, Minh Cau Street, Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, Hoang Van Thu Street, all of which are deeply flooded areas with garbage strewn about.

Ms. Dao Thi Hoang Loan, Deputy General Director of Thai Nguyen Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, said: We have deployed 100% of our staff, increased vehicles and machinery to collect garbage, and hired more excavators and trucks. The company is divided into three shifts, working day and night to process the garbage as quickly as possible. The biggest difficulty is not only the volume of garbage but also its specific nature: garbage after the flood includes many bulky items such as refrigerators, televisions, sofas, wardrobes... many areas are located deep in narrow alleys, large vehicles cannot enter. Therefore, the company hopes that people will cooperate by bringing garbage to collection points so that workers can collect and transport it more conveniently.

To speed up the progress of overcoming the consequences, the Company mobilized 10 specialized road cleaning vehicles, 10 excavators, 30 large trucks, and received active support from environmental units in Hanoi , Lao Cai... In addition, the Police and Military forces also participated in supporting, making an important contribution to environmental cleaning work.

To have clean roads after the flood is the effort, sweat, tears and silent sacrifice of environmental workers. They work in harsh conditions: soaking in dirty water, strong smell of garbage, garbage mixed with mud, and the risk of infectious diseases after natural disasters. Thai Nguyen is gradually recovering after the flood. The main roads are cleaned, garbage is taken away, the stench is gradually disappearing. But the image of environmental workers holding brooms, shovels, and wheelbarrows diligently cleaning up the "sea" of garbage is a beautiful image in the minds of the people.
