The pregnant woman, Ms. LTL, 30 years old, from Can Tho City, was admitted to the hospital with a large, tense, and uncomfortable abdomen. Upon examination, the doctors noted that the patient had a very large ovarian tumor (nearly 20cm, equivalent to a 7-month-old fetus), occupying almost the entire abdomen.

Master - Doctor Dao Thi Anh Vinh, Deputy Head of Obstetrics Department, Thong Nhat General Hospital said: This is a case of a "giant" ovarian tumor, which has pushed the uterus and fetus to one side, with many potential risks such as: tumor torsion, compression of surrounding organs, uterine compression, fetal compression, tumor rupture, miscarriage...

To ensure the safety of the pregnant woman and fetus, the doctors decided to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove the tumor, but the surgery was very difficult. Because the tumor was very large, it obscured and limited the surgical field, making the laparoscopic operation very difficult.
In addition, large tumors that have been around for a long time cause compression and adhesion to neighboring organs, so the risk of damage to neighboring organs during dissection is very high.

Laparoscopic surgery during pregnancy requires special delicate techniques. The doctor must perform the operations gently, accurately, quickly and decisively, avoiding collision or damage to the pregnant uterus. In addition, it is necessary to control the CO2 pressure in the abdomen well, keeping the surgery time as short as possible to limit the impact on the fetus.

With the doctor's high level of skill, the smooth coordination and high concentration of the entire team, the surgery was successful. The tumor was completely removed, the patient recovered well and the fetus continued to develop normally.
