The exhibition “Reflections” is an activity in the 52Hz event series of the Palette of Sound (POS) volunteer organization - a club founded by a group of high school students with the desire to create an environment that supports and encourages the psychological development of deaf-mute children through art.

The event aims to help a group of deaf people raise their voices and freely express their dreams through art. In addition, the exhibition also has the participation of a number of young artists who want to auction their paintings to raise funds for the deaf community and spread good messages.

With the goal of connecting the deaf community with society, "Reciting Words" creates opportunities for deaf children to be understood, sympathized, and integrated into society, while creating a friendly, healthy playground for them to freely express their personality and develop.

Sharing with reporters, Pham Gia Linh - Head of the Organizing Committee said: "I am currently studying at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and when I started to pursue the art of painting. After that, I had the opportunity to meet deaf students and understand and sympathize with the aspirations of students my age but did not have the opportunity to develop their talents in the most favorable way. For that reason, I wanted to create a playground to popularize basic knowledge about hearing disabilities to everyone around, so that everyone can understand and sympathize, thereby eliminating the boundaries between these two communities. Thereby, the exhibition helps everyone have a comprehensive and positive view of deaf people as well as sympathize and accept them.

"The works at the exhibition will be sold by the Organizing Committee to raise funds, create a new playground for deaf students, and also have more funds to buy more paints, easels and support deaf students in activities to develop their art" - the Organizing Committee representative added.

Regarding the meaning of the exhibition's name, Pham Gia Linh said: "When I first met the deaf people, I had to ask for an interpreter. Then I went online to learn more about the body language of the deaf people and learned the embossed alphabets so that I could talk and interact with the deaf people when we sat down to draw a picture together. As for the name, I think Hoi means response, and Ngon means words, language. Combined together, the name Hoi Ngon brings the meaning of "Responding to voices".

With the image of the seashell, the Organizing Committee also wants to convey the message: Listen and learn about the nameless sounds, the "pearls" hidden deep inside each person, here specifically the deaf, to understand, love, protect them and recognize the beauty of the soul hidden by physical disabilities. Therefore, Hoi Ngon also hopes to open the seashell filled with emotions to spread love to the deaf community in particular and everyone in general.

Previously, the hearing impaired students participated in the 52Hz workshop program, where they were exchanged and trained in some skills to create products and works from environmentally friendly materials.

The exhibition Memoirs: Where deaf children 'draw their dreams' takes place for two days from October 17 to 18, 2024 in Hanoi.
