In the 2000s, Nokia was a symbol of global technology, accounting for more than 40% of the phone market share and having almost no competitors. The arrival of the iPhone in 2007 changed everything, as users shifted to caring more about software and experience than hardware.
Nokia was too confident in its brand and Symbian operating system, missing the golden opportunity to transform into modern smartphones. While Apple and Google build strong ecosystems, Nokia struggles between upgrading hardware and maintaining old platforms.
The wrong turn came when Nokia joined hands with Microsoft, putting its trust in Windows Phone instead of Android. CEO Stephen Elop, former Microsoft leader, is said to have caused Nokia to "burn itself" with its strategy of abandoning Symbian too soon. Just two years later, the legendary brand was acquired by Microsoft for 5.44 billion euros, closing the Finnish mobile era.
Now, Nokia has become a classic lesson in conservatism, when the speed of innovation does not keep up with the times, causing all monuments to collapse. Dear readers, please watch more videos : Top 10 'Scary' Technology Devices of the Future.
