Onana wants to return to MU

Goalkeeper Andre Onana is expected to return to Manchester United for the 2026/27 pre-season.

Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan, with his entire £170,000-a-week salary paid by the Turkish club. The Cameroonian goalkeeper endured a difficult two seasons at United, ending with a forgettable error in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, which saw him heavily criticised.

At Trabzonspor, Onana gradually regained his confidence and form. After 4 appearances, he kept his first clean sheet in a 4-0 win over Kayserispor on October 4. Trabzonspor considered the possibility of buying Onana permanently after the 29-year-old goalkeeper made a strong impression.

However, according to British media, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper still plans to return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2026. Onana believes that playing at Trabzonspor will help him regain his form, while also opening up the possibility of returning to top competition with MU.

However, Onana’s future is uncertain because MU is said to have closed the door on this goalkeeper. After Senne Lammens shone in the 2-0 win over Sunderland on October 4, MU fans are no longer interested in his return to the team’s goal.

Onana's contract with MU is valid until 2028. Before leaving, Onana was the number one goalkeeper of the "Red Devils". However, an injury during the pre-season caused him to lose his position to Altay Bayindir.
