Learner Tien, a Vietnamese-born tennis player, had a dramatic reunion with Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters 2025. Previously, Tien had defeated Medvedev at the China Open, so the Russian tennis player entered the match determined to take revenge.

The first set was tense as both sides battled for every point. Although Medvedev broke in game 9, Tien immediately reclaimed it in the next game, forcing the set into a tie-break. Here, Medvedev's bravery helped him win 8-6 and take a 1-0 lead.

In set 2, Medvedev had an early break advantage but Learner Tien played resiliently, balancing in game 5. Once again, the tie-break decided the winner and this time Tien dominated, winning 7-1 to bring the match to a 1-1 balance.

The final set saw caution from both sides. Both sides held their serves firmly, keeping the game as tense as a bowstring.

The turning point came in game 9 when Medvedev broke Tien's serve. Not missing the opportunity, the Russian player ended set 3 with a score of 6-4, thereby winning 2-1 overall and earning a ticket to the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters.
