On January 15, billionaire Elon Musk made the world curious about his criteria for recruiting talent 'regardless of qualifications' through a status on social network X.

"If you are a talented software designer and want to create an app, join us by sending your best work to code@x.com.

"We don't care what school you went to, or even if you went to school, or if you work at a prestigious company. Just show us your product (code)," billionaire Elon Musk posted on social network X (formerly Twitter) on January 15.

Degree doesn't matter

The above announcement has become a hot topic in the world in general and the labor and recruitment community in particular.

It can be seen that Mr. Musk's company prioritizes recruiting talented candidates, not degrees. So no matter where you studied or worked, you can join the team of the richest man in the world.

"There's no need for a college degree. If you look at people like Bill Gates, Larry Ellison or Steve Jobs, they didn't graduate from college," Musk said when asked about the importance of a college degree in a 2014 interview with AutoBild.tv .

Mr. Musk gives opportunities to candidates without regard to traditional criteria such as college degrees. Then, the billionaire will evaluate that candidate through expertise and real-life experience.

Mr. Musk also focuses on a candidate's problem-solving skills, something that a degree doesn't necessarily reflect. He will consider whether "they can face difficult problems and overcome them."

Hiring by attitude

Sharing with The Henry Ford about the things he values when meeting candidates, Mr. Musk expressed: "In general, I look for a positive attitude. It's very important to like your colleagues, otherwise your work will become very bad."

The SpaceX founder said he had fired employees at his company because of their work attitude. For him, teamwork is an indispensable requirement, so the billionaire does not accept "difficult people". He also does not appreciate candidates with rude attitudes.

Searching for unique values

US media said billionaire Musk is famous for putting pressure on interviews. He always asks difficult questions to candidates so they have the opportunity to show their own identity and values.

Nowadays, employers often use puzzles or situational questions in interviews.

Tesla executives were no exception, once asking candidates: "You are standing on the ground. You go one mile south, one mile west, and one mile north. Finally, you are back where you started. So where are you?"

These questions are not meant to identify the smartest candidate, but rather to test their problem-solving abilities. It seems that Mr. Musk wants to assess whether the candidate can look at the problem from multiple perspectives before giving an answer.
