According to research published in the journal Science Advances, the new fabric, called A-Textile, can turn clothes into intuitive, flexible, and always-on AI assistants.
Developed by researchers at Suzhou University (China), A-Textile is a soft, flexible and washable electro-acoustic fabric that is different from conventional rigid and bulky recording devices.
The multi-layer structure of this fabric includes a composite coating containing three-dimensional tin sulfide (SnS₂) nanoparticles embedded in silicone rubber, along with graphite-like carbonized fabric. This design enhances the ability to collect and amplify the natural static charge that is generated on the garment when the user speaks.
According to the research team, this AI fabric can recognize voices with up to 97.5% accuracy, allowing users to remotely control home appliances. In the test, users can turn on/off air conditioners or lights with just voice commands.
It doesn't stop there, the technology is also connected to cloud services, allowing you to run smartphone apps like Google Maps for directions, or chat with ChatGPT to ask for cocktail recipes or travel itinerary suggestions.
