Decision No. 3479/QD-BVHTTDL of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to nominate the feature film Red Rain to participate in the preliminary round of the International Feature Film Award at the 98th Academy Awards was made based on the voting results of the National Film Selection Council.

The National Council consists of five members who are prestigious managers, artists and film experts, chaired by Mr. Dang Tran Cuong, Director of the Department of Cinema.

The members met and voted with the responsibility of selecting national representative films under Rule 16 of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

As a result, the film Red Rain was highly trusted and became Vietnam's representative to attend the preliminary round of the International Feature Film Awards, the 98th Oscars.

Red Rain realistically and emotionally recreates the revolutionary war scene, focusing on honoring the brave spirit and noble sacrifice of soldiers.

The film impresses with its humanistic storytelling style, elaborately invested images, and convincing acting by the cast. The film, written by writer Chu Lai, is set in 1972, when the Liberation Army of South Vietnam completely conquered Quang Tri province - the place where the border temporarily divided the North and South.

Having lost its strategic base and facing the risk of losing Thua Thien province, the US provided additional equipment for the Army of the Republic of Vietnam to counterattack and retake Quang Tri, especially the Citadel, in order to force the signing of an agreement favorable to them.

Director Dang Thai Huyen, with many years of experience in war films, has skillfully harmonized the heroic epic spirit with a close, modern perspective, helping the work not only touch the emotions of domestic audiences but also connect with international audiences.

After more than 1 month of release, Red Rain attracted more than 8.1 million viewers, grossed more than 700 billion VND, and is the highest-grossing film ever in the Vietnamese cinema market.

On September 30, the Cinema Department announced that the submission of a Vietnamese film to the 98th Oscars is a step to affirm the increasingly strong position of the country's cinema in the integration process. This is an important opportunity for Vietnamese cinema to be widely introduced, opening the door to exchange and learn from the world cinema.

According to the plan, the People's Army Cinema will closely coordinate with the Cinema Department to complete the documents and send the films with English subtitles to the Oscar Organizing Committee before the prescribed deadline.

Red Rain continues the journey of many famous Vietnamese works that have previously participated in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars, such as The Scent of Green Papaya (1993), Ao Lua Ha Dong (2006), or Hai Phuong (2019).

Although no film has won a golden statue, each time Vietnamese cinema is present is an important milestone, helping the world once again understand our country and people.

The Oscar is the world's most prestigious and prestigious film award, presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding achievements in the film industry in many categories such as acting, directing, and technique... The symbol of the award is the golden Oscar statuette in the shape of a knight.

This is the pinnacle that any filmmaker wants to conquer, bringing great influence to revenue and reputation. The category that Vietnam's Red Rain film participated in is the International Feature Film Award, for works that do not speak English.
