According to the report of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, as of October 19, the whole province recorded 25 dengue fever outbreaks with 92 new cases during the week (from October 13 to 19), concentrated in Ky Lua ward and Dong Kinh ward.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: In that situation, the department has issued a document, directing the entire sector to urgently and synchronously deploy measures to prevent and control dengue fever in schools; requiring schools to coordinate with the health sector and local authorities to conduct general environmental sanitation, kill mosquito larvae, spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes; ensure hygiene in classrooms, kitchens, dormitories, toilets and domestic water sources. Along with that, educational institutions have stepped up propaganda about risks and disease prevention measures, proactively detected and promptly handled suspected cases of the disease. The sector has also strengthened the steering committee for disease prevention and control, clearly assigned tasks, strengthened monitoring, and reported regularly to maintain a safe and stable school environment.
Implementing this directive, educational institutions in the area have taken drastic measures with many specific actions. At 17-10 Kindergarten (Ky Lua Ward), the campaign "Environmental sanitation, mosquito larvae eradication to prevent and control Dengue and Chikungunya fever" was organized with many practical activities. On October 5, the school coordinated with the Provincial Center for Disease Control, Cao Loc Regional Medical Center, People's Committee and Ky Lua Ward Medical Station to spray disinfectants on the entire campus; staff and teachers did general cleaning, cleared sewers, and killed mosquito larvae. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, Principal of the school, said: Not only did the school spray disinfectant once, but it maintained it regularly every week, especially after prolonged rains, combined with increased classroom sanitation, eliminating stagnant water, providing mosquito repellent for children, and coordinating propaganda with parents.
Such proactive and regular actions have helped keep the learning environment clean and safe, contributing to effective disease control and prevention.
At educational institutions, epidemic prevention and control work is also actively and systematically carried out. Specifically, the school coordinates with the health sector to spray insecticide to kill mosquitoes and disinfect the entire campus, creating a "green - clean - beautiful - safe" environment; homeroom teachers integrate propaganda into class hours and send messages to parents via Zalo groups about disease prevention, maintaining hygiene in the living space, and killing mosquito larvae.
Ms. Hoang Bich Lien (Ky Lua Ward), a parent whose child is studying at Hoang Van Thu Primary School, shared: “The epidemic situation makes parents worried, but when we see the school proactively spraying pesticides, propagating to students and giving specific instructions to parents, we feel very secure. At home, the family also follows the recommendations, regularly cleans stagnant water, and hangs mosquito nets for children when sleeping. From there, it helps children to be better protected and form the habit of maintaining hygiene and preventing diseases from an early age.”
Not only in the central area, other communes in the province are also actively preventing and fighting dengue fever. Like Dinh Lap commune, the work of preventing and fighting dengue fever is also seriously implemented. Talking to us, Ms. Ninh Thu Giang, Head of the Commune's Department of Culture and Society, said: Although no cases of dengue fever have been recorded in the area, in order to proactively prevent and fight, the department has advised the leaders of the Commune People's Committee to issue a document, requiring schools to proactively clean the environment, spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes in and around the campus, closely coordinate with the health sector to monitor, detect early and promptly handle suspected cases of the disease. At the same time, propaganda work is promoted through meetings and extracurricular activities, helping students, teachers and parents raise awareness, proactively prevent the disease, contributing to building a safe and friendly learning environment.
Thanks to the synchronous and drastic implementation from the grassroots, the epidemic situation in schools in the area has been basically controlled. Currently, educational institutions are continuing to maintain environmental hygiene, monitor students' health daily, and closely coordinate with the health sector to promptly handle arising situations. Thanks to the initiative of the education sector and the spirit of cooperation of parents and students, the school environment is maintained safely, contributing to stabilizing teaching and learning, not allowing the epidemic to affect health and education quality.
