What fruits and juices can 'cure a hangover instantly'?

During Tet, the use of alcohol at parties when families gather and friends meet increases. To avoid getting drunk, gentlemen are whispering to each other a method to "sober up immediately".

Does eating vegetables and juices really help sober up?

On social networks, many people share ways to quickly sober up by "eating lots of green vegetables, fruits, and drinking juice to help dilute the alcohol concentration immediately, quickly sobering up again".

Sharing about this method, Dr. Doan Du Manh, a member of the Vietnam Vascular Disease Association, said that eating green vegetables, fruits or drinking juice after drinking alcohol does not have the effect of immediately sobering up or reducing blood alcohol concentration.

However, using these foods will help restore the body and reduce fatigue by supplementing water, vitamins and electrolytes.

Dr. Manh explains that there is no way to completely eliminate alcohol from the body in a short period of time. The process of metabolizing and eliminating alcohol depends on the liver function and the body's natural speed.

Therefore, dietary measures are only supportive, helping to reduce unpleasant symptoms after drinking alcohol.

"The effect of eating green vegetables when drinking alcohol is to help the body compensate for lost water, and at the same time stimulate the kidneys to excrete alcohol through urine," Dr. Manh analyzed.

According to Dr. Manh, some foods and drinks that drinkers can consider using are oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, lemons (rich in vitamin C, helps enhance liver function and reduce oxidative stress caused by acetaldehyde); pennywort, fish mint, green bean water...

Note when using fruits and vegetables after drinking alcohol

According to Dr. Manh, green vegetables, fruits, and juices are good for health. However, when using these foods after drinking alcohol, certain precautions should be taken.

For example, people with stomach problems who combine alcohol with acidic fruits such as oranges, lemons, and tangerines can further damage the stomach lining, causing pain or discomfort.

In this case, coconut water or other types of filtered water are safe choices.

It takes time for alcohol to metabolize in the body. Therefore, you should not drink a large amount of water in a short time after drinking alcohol. If you replenish water too quickly, it can lead to electrolyte imbalance, making the body more tired.

Doctor Manh advises that when drinking fruit juice, people should drink slowly, in small sips, and listen to their bodies to avoid putting pressure on the kidneys.

The best way to protect your body and liver is to drink alcohol in moderation and understand your limits. There is no "magic potion" that can help you sober up quickly and drink thousands of cups without getting drunk, Dr. Manh warned.

How is alcohol absorbed into the body?

When alcohol enters the body, ethanol (alcohol) is quickly absorbed through the stomach lining and small intestine, then enters the blood and is metabolized mainly in the liver.

Under the influence of enzymes in the body, alcohol is converted into acetaldehyde and then acetic acid, which is then broken down into water and CO2 to be eliminated through breath, urine and sweat.

Doctor Manh said that if you drink a small amount of alcohol, the liver can metabolize it quickly, without causing symptoms of fatigue.

However, when you drink too much alcohol, the liver cannot metabolize it fast enough, causing the alcohol to remain in the blood, increasing the blood alcohol concentration (BAC). This is the reason why you feel drunk or tired when drinking too much alcohol in a short period of time.
